Hey all,

I've got heated grips and a gps on the bike right now.. After all the great responses from another thread, I'm looking to add a Gerbing heated jacket. Question, can the stock amp on the ST handle the load? Dan

Heated grips and gps don't draw much at all.
I think the liner is a tad under 100 watts running full out so you should be ok.

st1300 or 1100? And if 1100 which alternator?

You did not say what bike you have.

Pre 1996 with 28 amp alternator, probably not
ST1100 with 40 amp alternator, yes
ST1300, yes

I have added so many farkles to my STeed the last farkle was the LED battery gauge. It runs from green, to yellow to red. I have not yet turned everything on at once to see what happens, but with several things going at once she still stays green. I bought it from the Electrical connection for about $30 including shipping.

It should be noted that the amperage numbers are based on 4000+/- RPM engine speed. At speeds below that the current capacity is reduced, so while it's not a problem at highway speeds, in slow going with lots of light and/or heat, it could be a problem. Like others I've installed a voltage monitor and when the voltage drops too low I know I have to turn something off.

05,1300. heated grips, 910's, 1200's, gps, autocom, 9500, cb, cruise, plus other stuff
I only need to turn the 910's off (110w each) in the city. your fine. If everything is on, I only have 11.8v on the battery in the city. 910's off around 13.....

There's a spreadsheet that takes a very rough cut at estimating system capacity here.

In cold weather, I run 06 ST1300 with Honda Heated grip, Garmin 376, Gerbings liner jacket, pants, gloves and socks without any problem. All Gerbings are in combination with dual heat controller, and usually setting of the heat controller does not go up to maximum setting, which I want to say that they do not draw as much current as their power consumption is listed on catalog. I also do not use heated grip when I use heated gloves.
