Would really appriciate any suggestions/pics from those of you who have installed the Autocom (or similar) head set in a Shoei RF1000 or like full face. I've got the placement of things down pretty well I think, but not sure about the wiring and securing the DIN drop... TIA! :D

but not sure about the wiring and securing the DIN drop... TIA! :D

For the DIN drop on my IMC MIT-100 headset which sounds to be the same I used some velcro.

I put one male piece on the inside shell of the helmet and then ran the drop out right next to it. I then wrapped a female piece of velcro around the cable at the same spot. I didn't think it would hold very well but the padding at the lower part of the helmet seems to be enough to hold it in place with the velcro.

I wrapped thread around the cable on the velcro to make sure it held onto the cable. Just a couple wraps will do it. I used the velcro that says it's designed to stick to vinyl. It comes in a red and white box and says it's designed for sticking to things in your car like your dash I guess.

I just posted this:

in the knowledge base area and it is for a J&M but it might help you out.

Where did you run the wires from the far earpiece? Seems as though the inner/outer shells are pretty well fused in places (back), struggling with a concealed route around to the mic/drop side...

The helmet install was the toughest part for me. I finally got my Arai wired, and am pretty satisfied. I have a HJC which I may put the second headset into, but after one look I decided to wait a while on that one. I need time for the stress from the Arai to wear off.

Very good installation report Mellow. I have installed a number headsets in Arais mostly and I just did it in my Scorpion. I didn't put them in deep enough and now I have to do take it apart and make the holes deeper. Also, I have found that I don't do the microphone in the chin piece. I have been putting the mic in the left cheekpad facing forward. It seems to work ok. I'm sure in the cheekpad would be better, but this works fine and is very easy. Sometimes in the chin bar, it can generate more wind noise. Depends on the helmet.

Again, nice installation pictures and text.

I have a Starcom, and I don't know the size difference between the Startcom and the Autocom speakers, but I would imagine they are comparable in size. If so, you don't have to go through the drilling to install the speakers on an RF-1000, they just velcro in place in the recessed area around the ears.

I did have to do the drilling on an older RF-800 to mount the speakers because there is no ear recess.

There is enough room to shove the cable up between the helmet shell and the foam, just be careful what you use to shove it up there with so you don't break the wires or damage the insulation. I used small cable clips sticky taped to the helmet to hold the lead in place, and one in the back to shelve the lead when I am not using it (which is like never).

My lips are already close to the chin guard, so I buried the mike in the chin guard foam (used a small drill bit in hand to bore a small shallow hole) and covered it with accoustic foam. It is still very close to my lips as recommended, but not annoying.

Thanx Ya'll... very helpful stuff indeed... particularly your info and pix Joe:bow1:, seeing how to get the bucket apart is key :) :clap2:

Just about done with Judi's install (did her's first since it barely gets used just in case I screwed up  ), looking good, will get mine done and finish the Autocom install for the weekend, hooking up w/ Mr. & Mrs. Kempo-STer for a roll in the Whites on Sunday... may even have the ipod and the 8500 by then!
