I didn't sign up for this leg but let me know if you need some help. You guys are just a quick ride North. I wouldn't mind at all to ride up there and ride back with you so you didn't have to do it alone. :06biker:

If we can get it worked out to get the bag to me in New Mexico on the 28th or 29th, I should be headed from Santa Fe to Oklahoma City (via Amarillo - I wanna have lunch at the Big Texan :drool1: ) on the 29th or 30th respectively and then on to Austin (via Dallas) 30th or 1st...
If that make any sense...

I'll keep you posted with what I find out about pickup in New Mexico... Where are you thinking about meeting up? Of course you can keep an eye on the Santa Fe / Amarillo thread as well... LOL

Khris is bedded down in Amarillo for the evening. He'll be at the Capital in OK City at noon...or so.....
Anyone from OK riding south? I'll talk to Khris tomorrow morning and let him know you'll meet him at the Capital.
It's a long haul for him..but he says he's shooting for San Antonio (home) tomorrow. That's where the ride will probably stop tomorrow. It won't get to SA until pretty late in the day.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'm gonna make this leg...I have caught some kind of stomach and fever bug and it is getting the better of me. If by chance I kick this thing by tomorrow morn, I'll send you a PM (Forest) and head to the Capitol.

checkin in here form the hotel... It was pretty windy coming into Amarillo and cold so I decided to stop for the night.. I'll hit the OKC capital about noon...I'll check back here before I hit the road in the A.M. I'll follow the Bag as far as Austin tomorrow..then peel off to San Antonio. If I need to drop it with someone in Oklahoma City to let it have a few more riders..that's OK as well. :D
Won't be able to make lunch in Dallas obviously...but if there are a bunch of folks that want to get together....perhaps a PIE Stop :eat1:

I'm on duty today, and get off in the morning (DFW area). My new plan is to head home for the ST, then south to Burnet for an afternoon funeral. It will be a full day, though no comparison to the long ride we're reading about.
But much of my day can be along I-35 if I can learn of riders in the area, I'll try linking up even for a brief stint?? Best I can hope for at this time. Also, looks like a cool and windy front will be following the riders down from OK country.

It must have stopped working, he was moving pretty consistently for a while there.. I'm thinking Forest was about 20-30 mins ahead of him... so by noon he should be there easily.

Forest and Khris left the Capital a little after 1 PM. The weather really sucks today....strong chilly NW wind along with intermittent frozen slushy rain.

Two tired puppies hit Austin at about 11 pm. Lots and lots of holiday traffic. Bumper to bumper for over 60 miles in the Hillsboro, Texas area on I35.
Images to follow soon. (edit: images added)
Good to meet everyone along the way.
A few images of a very cold, very, very windy day at the Oklahoma Capital building. A few from Dallas at late lunch/early dinner with a group from the Dallas area. A few shots of Khris at the Texas State Capital building....a long day but good.
Forest
My favorite shot: Khris was leaning along I40 on the way to Amarillo (leaning not because of the twisty roads...but because of the crosswind) and he told us his visor was constantly lifting as the air came across his helmet. He said he stopped at a truck stop for duct tape to solve the problem. Note: see second photo and take a look at that spiffy helmet fix. :-)

You're photos are exceptional. I really like the angle you chose for the Oklahoma capitol building and the nightime shot on the Texas capitol building is quite striking.
Thanks for sharing. As stated before, I only wish I'd been able to be there for at least part of it.

Thanks Stellar...
I think this Pony Express thing is going to happen for many years with more riders participating each year. You'll have many opportunities!!!!
We've got to remember the fund raising part of this effort! The ride was great fun...but even those that don't get a shot at riding can support.
Great team effort from start to finish. Tank has done a great job keeping us all focused.

It was great riding with you Forest...Too bad the weather monster rolled into to Santa Fe on Friday forcing you to turn back home... I'm glad you were able to meet me in Oklahoma City for the journey south to Austin!
I want to apologize to the folks who met at McDonalds in Dallas..... In my excitement at seeing a bunch of ST's together, I didn't even think about pulling out the bag/journal to have everyone there sign the journal!!:doh1: And Mellow even blessed me with a new ST-Owners Hat!! Double :doh1::doh1:

Not a problem, for those of us that couldn't be part of the actual route, it was good just to meet those that could.
Hope the glove liners came in handy.

It's not looking good I might be on call the entire month of december. Just hold on to them and use them as needed, they are great for such a simple item.
