This is my first message on this board. Hello to all.
The ST1300 is powerfull, comfortable, and green (40-50mpg.) straight from the factory. But...
Has anyone added performance mods to their bikes? So far, I have installed Two Brothers pipes (dropped 16 lbs.) and a K&N filter and have to say that these two mods make quite a difference. However, I have not made any changes to the fuel injection system, so I know that the engine is not yet taking full advantage of the of the extra air and less restrictive exhaust, but the engine now runs much smoother (and there is substantially less of that unsettling snatchy engine braking). Lifting the front is also ridiculously easy (not that it was hard before.)
From what I have read, no one has succeeded in creating a good fuel map for power commander use on this bike.
Has anyone else made power modifications?

Hey there,
There isn't a lot of performance mods here but I haven't seen much anywhere else. Most are pretty happy with it's performance as a sprt touring model and if they need more HP they go for a little sportier bike. There are some posts on here about pipes, air filter, power commander, and maybe a few others.

Judging by the previous post, It appears that the majority of STowners aren't that interested in enhancing the performance of their bikes. I am always interested in improving the performance of my machines regardless of what "most people here think". I have Staintunes, a K&N and I have had my Fuel Pressure Regulator modified by Tom at Turbo City. http://www.turbocity.com/product_info.php?products_id=551
These and other basic mods have improved my bikes drivability substantially.
Good luck.
Hey Rob, I have the same mods. Is it just me or did your fuel mileage increase after installing the fuel pressure regulator? I have nothing scientific to base my findings but it sure seems to be getting even better mileage now.

I added the staintune slip ons and the bike seems much smoother.I don't think it got any faster but I love the head turning I get now! My ride looks like a giant sportbike, bags off ,side panels installed ,rear fender removed and the staintunes with no restrictors. The question I have is does changing the air filter really make any differance?
Dyno testing has shown a 6hp increase with the K&N air filter over stock.

What "side panels" are you talking about? Is there a cover available for when the luggage is off?

The rear panels come from the uk they look great and the paint job is first rate, but you also must loss the grampa rear fender to complete the look. The web address is www.st1300-accessories.co.uk/stx1300_st1300_panels.html the panel are a little pricey about $375 with shipping but i think there worth every penny .......noticed your in akron Im about 20 mins away in walton hills I would be happy to show a fellow st rider the panels in person ....you can email me directly at www.cabinintheoaks@aol.com if you want to see them.....

Wow! those are serious results! Thanks for the link.
Mine sure feels spunkier with upgrades.
Staintunes+K&N+Fuel Reg Mod should = 120 to 125 RWHP.

I'm afraid I can't attest to the same results as you due to that I seem to be applying more liberal doses of throttle ever since I brought her to life so my mileage has been suffering. My smileage has definitely increased though :D
