I put on Helibars yesterday and WOW!!!!!! I am 5'9" and the original reach sucked. I am so happy. It feels like a different bike completely. My stock seat even feels better now. NOT!

Update: 02/02/06 I bought a Sargent seat a couple months ago and now the transformation is complete. This is now the bike that Honda ought to be shipping.

I'm 6'2" and I installed the HELI-bar risers as one of my first upgrades.
I have to agree with you. I expected a little more too. :no1:
What would really be nice it if the seat adjustment would go much lower and further back.
:shrug2: It just doesn't pay to be tall.

Okay... I'm a little dense here. I'm not sure exactly what the "NOT" is referring to. I initially took it to mean the seat didn't feel any better (but the improved reach was good). Now I'm wondering if the change made little difference in both reach and seat. :shrug2:

I heard in an earlier thread that there are some Kawasaki Concors riders using a combination of HELI-bar and Genmar risers.
I believe the same could be done for the ST's.

That was my initial take, too. But after Big Al's comment on total disapointment with risers, I'm not so sure anymore. It's one of those sentences that can be read in more ways than one!

I'm thinking about going with either Heli or MCL for risers, but I'm waiting for a while until I place my order.

Assuming that it's even possible to mount GenMars on Helis or visa versa, it's important to determine that have enough brake and clutch cable as well as throttle cable and electrical wiring slack to allow the extra increase in handlebar height. You may find you'll need to, at the very least, have some custom made longer brake and clutch lines made. Sounds like a cool idea, though. Someone do it and let the rest of us know how it turns out.

Okay, what I meant was that the risers are GREAT!!! The risers do put me in a better position on the seat to get more support on my butt. The way the stock position of the handle bars were configured, I had to sit on the bike close to the tank and on my pubic bone so all that weight created a painful experience. It does feel like a different bike now just with the riser change and totally worth the money. I also got the one with the ram ball mount hole for my Garmin 2610, so two birds with one stone...

However, having said that, I still will get a new seat because I like the look of the Sargent and I have heard from Kim at CA Sports that nobody complained after the last group buy. And after all we live in America, where we can buy more comfort and more is better.

My plan is the same exact thing..
MCL bar risers with the ram mount in the middle for GPS at some point...

I definately need bar risers as I my riding positions puts too much weight on my wrist causing them to fall asleep as well as leaning forward enough so that I look 'up' with my helmet on and causes pressure point in my neck/trap area..

Switched STs last weekend with GRN (who has risers) and oh what a difference..Also an added benefit that he pointed out that I agree with is since there is less weight on the bars, the steering is much more responsive and less input is needed....

Good luck and keep us posted on the entire setup and how it works for you.

Hi all, I just purchased my first ST-WOW what a bike. It is an 04 and I am thrilled.
My question is, Is there more than one kind of riser and where do you get the Heli bars.
I am used to a crusier bike and the throttle grip is way bigger so it will take some getting use to. Do the Heli bars have a larger grip?
Thanks

Thanks- I am going to see if I can find some during Biketoberfest. My left front signal light is burned out, how do you get the lense cover off? There are not any screws, does it pop out?
Thanks Cowboy

The best match and quality I have found for the 1300 is http://www.motorcyclelarry.com/mc.htm
For the ST1100 the heli was the best.

Rode my newly picked up 03 last sunday afternoon for about 250 miles and had to stop twice for numbness in the right hand. Never happened on my 750 Nighhawk (numbness was on other body parts!). Have to do something! Just ordered this Heli thing from your post. Hope it will help. If not, it will be on to the grip thing....

I installed two MCL riser plates last week. Medicine Bear's 03ST1300 had riser blocks, so install required removal of those. The next day, I installed MCL riser plate on my 03 ST1300A.. simple job... MAJOR DIFFERENCE... MCL product was $10 less expensive than Heli Modified's price for essentially the same item and Larry ships FREE... Priority Mail.. Mine came in 4 days from CA to the piney woods of East Texas. $149.95 shipping included. Excellent product, excellent service. I did use six socket head cap screws from Lowe's ( 8mmX30mm by 1.25 pitch threads) because I thought the OEM screws were too short after putting the riser plate in place.

I've ordered Heli risers - and I understand you need a 14mm hex wrench to mount them. Where do you find a 14mm hex wrench? I've tried two local Sears, and the Sears site and cannot find Craftsman wrenches in that size.

Any other suggestions?

I installed a Heli riser plate a while back and do not remember the wrench sizes, but I can tell you I do not own a 14 mm socket wrench and did not need one.

The only socket wrench I had to buy was 6 mm.

The 14 mm size is most likely the bolt size below the plate and I was able to get to this one with a standard open end wrench. There are also some good tricks burried in the forums on how to get to and handle these lower bolts. Had not problem because I have small hands, but this could be challenging for big paws.

I'm glad you brought this up - I just rechecked and see a 6mm allen socket mentioned. That's a lot easier to find. Thanks!

I installed the risers some time back and love them. However, I lifted the tank enough to snake a power wire underneath for my new Stebel Horn, and it looks like I won't be able to fully elevate the tank when it comes time for air filter replacement. Is this true? Will I have to loosen or take off the risers to get the tank past the handlebars?

Thanks

My understanding from another post is that you can unfasten the tank then slide it back enough to clear the risers. I don't know personally, but that's what I've read.

I just installed my Heli risers last night and I love them today!

Don,
You may get much more attention for this if you create a separate post in the classified section. I have the MCLs and wholly endorse them.

Just for future reference, a 9/16 wrench is the same as
14mm.

Kempo-STer/anyone else, I would like to hear how you get on with the MCL risers. I just got a pair and put them on but decided to take them off again as I didn't like the stress they were putting on the original mounting plate. Since you raise the bars up you increase the leverage. I noticed quite a lot of play (with all the bolts torqued up correctly). Personally I don't want to add something that's going to cause early failure/fatigue.

Hi guys,
I just saw a message that wanted to know if GenMar risers could be mounted above the Heli bar riser plate. I just finished doing this mod, as I have a case of short ? arms :p: Both sets of risers fit perfectly with a little trimming to the Gen Mar set. The throttle cables are a little snug at full right lock, otherwise no problems !! The only extra thing you have to do is fabricate a spacer to fill in the gap in the center that the genmars create, and use 2 1/2 inch 6mm/1.0 bolts to secure the heli bar cover to the top.

This mod lets me sit almost upright, and makes riding long distance a lot more comfortable ! Now all I need is the Sargent seat and I will be set for summer.

Hope this helps:biker: I ride an 05 ST
