Hello -

I was referred to this site by another ST rider. I am looking for information for the pros and cons of an ST over an FJR -- I currently ride a Suzuki Intruder 1500. I had layed off riding for a while -- but prior to this, I had owned Honda 750's and Suzuki GS1100 with Fairings and saddle bags ---

The Intruder while a nice bike just doesn't fit what I have been used to -- any info you can give me about why you chose a ST would be very helpful -

thanks

Tons of information on the site about ST and it has been compared to the FJR many times. Run a search for previous threads. We are all biased towards the ST, but do respect the FJR as well. I am very pleased with my purchase and looked hard at the FJR. For me it was about style, comfort and the reliability. There are a few issues with the FJR motor you may want to investigate further. I test rode both before making up my mind on the ST. Paid a bit more, but well worth the money.
I also have an LC in the STable. Are you a member over on the Intruder forum?

Welcome to the madhouse ;) .

I think there's a few guys around that have owned both, I've just ridden a FJR. The basic difference for me is the fit and finish of the two, horsepower aside. The FJR seems to have been designed by committee, it just doesn't have the same integrated quality feel IMO. The early comparo's done by the M/C press lauded the FJR's motor and hp but lately it's been getting slammed for soft springs and un-responsiveness at low and mid-range rpms. The ST's been beating it in the European press comparo's. Mediocre weather protection and excessive heat were the main knocks on the Yammie. The fact that you can run the factory warranty coverage out to 6 or 7 years, unlimited mileage, on the ST speaks volumes about the expected reliability.

The only thing the FJR doesn't have that I'd like to see on the ST1300 is ~75 lbs. :)

Any specific questions, ask away.

This question has been asked many times, so I created a sub forum just for that in the Motorcycle Review area HERE (http://www.st-owners.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=160) is the link.

Now, that being said, I haven't done all the searching just yet to populate that sub-forum with all the comparison threads however, there are a couple and I'll add this one there as well.

That should be the first place to look then, perform a search on FJR or FJR1300 and you should find many more.. guess I need to do that as well and start moving topics to that sub-forum, thanks for reminding me.

Welcome to the site and my personal observations is that most guys coming off cruisers or bikes with a more upright seating position tend to choose the ST over the FJR. But, there are many other considerations and you'll find some good opinions here.

As KT said about the warranty, the ST comes with a standard 3 year, the FJR is one. There has been reports of engine ticking on some of the FJR engines as well.

The ST is a Touring ride... the FJR is more of a SPORT ride. The ST has been smoking the FJR in the press pretty much... it pretty much comes down to what kinda ride you want.

We had this discussion a while back with someone who finally decided on the ST, but it seems the thread has rolled off.

My last bike prior to my ST was a 99 1500LC. It was a nice bike but just not for me. I like the positioning, acceleration, mileage, range, engine, silver color :D...basically everything better. I have heard some good things about the FJR but I would not swap for my ST. Good luck with your choice.

There are many reasons why the FJR is lighter than our STs. This is juST one of them:
