STeve1300

I had a great ride today. Besides being my birthday, I was able to participate in Wisconsins' segment of the "Ride for Kids". As many know, this National event is sponsored by Honda Riders Club and supports the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. There were over 250 bikes of all kinds at the start, most common being the Goldwing - there must have been a hundred of them! Next most common were the assortment of BMWs, then other Hondas of all models. There were plenty of Harleys. I was the only ST 1300, and I saw one FJR1300, and no ST1100s. It was held in Madison Wisconsin, about 100 miles from home, and many riders came from as far as Chicago.
The ride was police escorted in a staggered formation, through some incredibly beautiful backroads, winding its way to one of the most scenic State Parks in Wisconsin, Devil's Lake. Adding to the special day, Cathy joined me on our first 2up trip. There were no accidents, and we had perfect weather.
From the start, we were treated like VIPs. At registration we were offered doughnuts, juices, coffee, etc..., and there were more food stations than lines! This was outdone at the finish with a catered lunch of subs, chips, fruit, and ice cream from 'Culvers', a local chain a notch or two above a DQ. Everything was free, donated by area sponsors.
Most importantly, over $50,000 was raised for the kids! There were heartwarming speaches, and a number of children who are surviving brain tumors took the stage. I can't encourage you enough to participate in this annual event. For my donation level, I received a couple t-shirts , ride pins, and that feeling of doing something good today. Pictures at...
