View Full Version : THE DEVIL (in the Tower) MADE ME DO IT!
Just returned from Hulett/Sturgis rallies. Stripped a few pic's from the camcorder that we shot for the grandchildren (Grampy does a Wheelie). The 'No Panty Day' in Hulett was not all it was cracked-up to be. The Yagger Bomb (Jagermeister shot with RedBull chaser) seemed to be the most popular breakfast drink in the area. Added about 1200 miles on the Beast from the East - Hulett; Spearfish; Custer; Sturgis; Crazyhorse; Rushmore & the Full Throttle Saloon.
Yes, I did not take off the safety stickers yet.
Hi Jim - nice photos!
By any chance did you get your STeed at Hollink? And possibly traded in an '03 in the process? If so, I may have your old bike :D
Yeah Ken, that's it! It should be nicely broken in for you (minimum wheelies).
Best of luck, ride safe! Jim F

You know I just can't seem to figure out how to get the front end up. I'm not concerned that I can't really but it would be nice to know what I'm doing wrong. Just seems to require more clutch popping than I'm comfortable with. Too much jerk in the take. Too much jerk on the bike.
Curt
Crazykz, the next time you fill up, add a viagra or two to the tank! It works for me.

Twist the throttle back. ;) Works for me, but I haven't got it up that high yet.

you do not even need the clutch... just ease up to about 4000 rpm in 1st then just snap it open... it will rise... very cool.

Maybe me sitting on the tank is the problem. ;) I've juiced it plenty and never had the front come off the ground.

Jim,
Great pix and obviously a good time. I've always wanted to see Devil's Tower ever since I was a kid and saw Close Encounters for the first time. I feel, somehow..., drawn to it...

Sorry, just noticed you've got a blue one. Paint it silver. :D
Really, I don't know why yours can't get it up. Man it is difficult to talk about this without thinking of a Cialis(?) commercial.

I know, I know. :p: My dad has a blue one. Getting to ride his was the reason I decided to get an ST.
Scared the crap out of me when that 700lb motorcycle pulled the front wheel up on me when I took it around the block. At that point I was SOLD. :D
They are all faasst, :bow1: , don't tell anyone else I said that. They other silvers might have my head.

First time I pulled a wheelie I had just gotten "The Lovely Cindy" to ride with me...
She asked me not 1000 ft out of the driveway "So,,, lets see what this bike will do"... I was going about 10 mph as I was turning at a stop sign and CRACKED it open,,, and pulled a LONG,,, wheelie... as I sat it back down,,, and 12 seconds went by TLC asked,,, "Did you know this would do that"??? I smiling like a kid in a candy store said,,, "No,,, but it won't be my last time"... TLC said,,, "Thats,,, what I am afraid of too" :D

go to about 4000rpm in 1st gear, release the throttle and quickly snap it back open and the front end is coming up. I used to wheelie all the time on my zrx1200 and that approach worked best and it also works when I've tried it on the ST.
