OK, due to missing lots of work thanks to an incredibly painful work-comp burning accident that killed my summer (2 months, no riding, now limited to non-daylight riding) I find myself facing another year without proper duds, and worse, no money really. I have a leather jacket and chaps that I wear on my VTX, but would like something a little better for the ST, especially at the highly aggresive level I tend to ride while lacking experoience and skill to do so  I was wondering if anyone had some good sugestions for riding gear that has good protection, but doesn't cost a grand just for pants and jacket. If I had the money for full professional gear I would have it, but I don't. Just trying to give myself a little extra protection to help avoid the consumption of hospital food ;)

Items needed:
Riding jacket (with pads and such)
Protective pants
Gloves? (now I ride with thin leather driving gloves)
Boots (anything is better than the cowboy boots I wear anytime I leave the house right?)
what else? (I have a good helmet or three)

Check out http://newenough.com - they have some nice items on clearance. For example the Joe Rocket Atomic
Textile Sport Jacket (http://newenough.com/joe_rocket_atomic_jacket_page.htm) for $69.

You can pick up gloves for $20-$25 and boots for $95.

While this may not be top-of-the-line gear, the price is right and the protection reasonable.

I have also bought gear from motoemporium. Very nice people and also the lowest prices I have found. Good selection of quality, desireable gear.

Keep an eye on eBay for deals on Tour Master Cortech pants/jackets. I have found a 3/4 Advanced jacket for $50, an Advanced Sport jacket for $45 and pants for $35 in the past several months. All have been new with tags still on them. Jackets come with a zip in/out liner for colder weather and vented for hotter days. Also serve as rain gear.

NewEnough also has several pair of Cruiserworks boots listed on eBay with a starting bid of $1. (Limited sizes)

George,
You might want to check these guys out http://www.cycledepot.net/ . The website is cheesy and they haven't got any mfg info and choices are limited but the prices are great. I got my First Gear Trekker (2004 model) jacket from them for $71 plus shipping, MSRP is $299. This jacket is textile with padding in the shoulders and elbows but no hard armor. It also has a liner with full length sleeves. I can ride in it up to about 75-80 degrees F before it gets too warm.

That Joe Rocket Atomic is a good jacket ... has all the armor too !

Did you mention a helmet ? ... get a good lid, HJC CL-14 at least ...

I have a HJC CL-MAX helmet, and I like it pretty good, it's maybe a tad noisy, but I can live with it. I also have a Beiffe, but can't remember what model number and I wear it on occasion as it's not a flip up and so it's a lot quieter. A good helmet was my first concern when I bought my VTX back in Feb. I had been a few years without riding and so I bought a new bike and ordered a good helmet at the same time.

thanks for hte tips on places and what to buy guys, I have been browsing around, found some good deals on a few things, have several items I'm debating on, just waitin to see how a few things turn out so I know how much I can spend.

Thanks,
George

What size do you wear, jackets, pants, glove size? Maybe we can donate some gear. Let's clean out our closets and see what we can come up with.
