I'll confess......I'm a gadget fiend. Worse, I don't like to leave them at home when I travel. The recent acquisition of an iStation (review to follow) for the 'pod pushed me over the line in terms of redundant AC/DC power converters. Some of these things are almost as large as the item they power. On a long trip, like WeSToc, where I plan to be on the road for almost a month I haul a cell phone, iPod, PDA, notebook computer and now the iStation. Something had to give. Enter the iGo 7500 (http://www.mobilityelectronics.com/power/everywhere75/index.htm) .

This thing is not cheap but it powers everything I carry, the notebook and one other device concurrently, from a wall outlet, 12 volt auto cig socket. or aircraft power outlet (plug supplied). All cords tips and the unit itself fit into a supplied case that's smaller than my notebook power supply. If your laptop etc. does not need the ooomph of the older units in terms of wattage there are units that are a little more affordable in the 70 watt and lower ranges. My Sony needs the juice so the 90 watt 7500 series was needed. The required voltage is controlled by the tip you use, and the tips are matched to the manufacturer's spec. for the device. Very slick, and it works. Upgrade your phone...a new tip is all that's needed. New computer....same deal. Recommended.
