Great pictures. Let me know how to get there if you would...Did you happen to see the accident on the 74 around 3.30 where a dodge truck did not make one of the turns. Happens almost weekly. Also in Idylwild. Sometimes families never know what happened to loved ones until the PDl ater or hikers find vehicles years later.. Nasty unforgiving road..I dont like it!

I was already down the mtn. well before 3:30, but I've seen my fair share of accidents up there. I am a competitive cyclist and I do a lot of hot weather training up there in the summer in preparation for the Tour of Spain. I have a tremendous respect for Hwy 74/243. It is a very unforgiving road but unlike you, I love that road even though I've been hit twice (on my bicycle). Once by a motorcyclist mirror on the way up. Once by a drunk driver on the way down at 50+mph! Don't remember anything after the initial impact. Came to in the ambulance with two paramedics working on my head and arm. Massive concussion, two broken ribs, chipped bone in my elbow and 24 stitches along with a hell of a lot of skin. Still, I don't hate that road... I hate the stupid dumbass basturds that drive on it.

From Palm Desert, take CA Hwy 74 to the CA Hwy 243 junction in Mountain Center. Turn right at "Y" in road and continue on 243 to the town of Idyllwild.
Once in Idyllwild, follow North Circle Drive to Humber Park where the road will circle around through roadside parking.
