I usually fill it to the top ... How high is high enough for these tanks? I've heard that it is possible to damage the charcoal canister for the emmissions.

to the bottom of the filler hole. I remember hearing this was a potential problem on the ST1100 but I never had any issues. Haven't seen anything other than rhetoric about harming the canister on the 1300 by overfilling.

I always (when I can afford a fill up!!! ) fill to the metal cross bar per the manual.

My manual indicates to fill to the lower lip of the filler hole. I've been wondering about that "cross bar", though. The diagram in the manual looks really odd to me.

Pred8tor you are certainly right, those instructions are not in the manual. Don't know where I saw them. Since the bar is just below the lower lip of the Filler I will continue to use it. BTW, I fill her up when she's on the centerstand.

I usually fill it to the bottom of the filler hole with the bike on the sidestand. It's not a "complete fill" but with over 7 gallons on tap, I don't worry about running out of petrol ...

Well, that's what kinda bugs me... I don't think I've ever put more than 6 gallons in the tank even when the gauge has been blinking for quite a while. So either it has more gas left than I am led to believe, or I'm just not putting as much in as it is supposed to hold.

I also usually put it on the centerstand... or occasionally just stay on the bike to keep it level. I only try to fill it full when I know I'm going to be riding enough to burn some fuel before parking to keep the heat from causing it to expand and possibly overflow (if that's possible).

Be careful, I had the same thing going on for a while. The countdown would start and the ST would only take about 6.6 gals. A few weeks ago I ignored the countdown and just as it hit 0 and started blinking, the bike ran out. Luckily I was near a gas station. The ST took a total of about 7.25 - 7.3 gals to fill that time. Watch your trip odometer, it's a better predictor of remaining fuel. My computer has returned to its old ways, 6.6 gals to fill up. :bow1: :bow1: :bow1:
