Went for a good ride yesterday and here's what I posted to our club forum (twinvalleyriders.com if you're in the region).

3rd Saturday Breakfast Bounces

Our bouncing for today occurred primarily on Routes 48 and 33, in the vicinity of Odd, West Virginia. These roads would have been excellent (crooked, hilly, scenic, ...) if it hadn't been for the cracks and potholes and caved-in bits. Still, the hour or so it took us to make our way from Jumping Branch to Rhodell probably saved us from the 10 minutes of city traffic we would have suffered if we had ridden through Beckley.

We also did a wee bit of sliding in the gravel covering Potts and Peters Mountains on our way to Union for breakfast at the Kalico Kitchen. There were five of us: Dave, Doug, John, Seth, and Chris, and our breakfasts were all under $5. KK is highly recommended for simple Appalachian fare. Be forewarned though: Doug had to work hard to get the wheat toast he'd ordered instead of the white toast our waitress delivered. I told him he should have brought his own toast.

From Union, we took US 219/WV 3 until WV 3 turned left. WV 3 was excellent as always, though the gravel was a bit exciting at times. Near Hinton, Doug waved off and headed back towards the Twin Valleys, while the rest of us continued on 3 towards Jumping Branch. After following the aforementioned bouncy roads, we spent a bit of time on WV 16 enjoying the colourful coal country, then turned south on WV 10 towards Matoaka. Any of you who haven't ridden the stretch of WV 10 between Herndon and Matoaka should endeavor to get out there tomorrow and correct this extreme oversight on your part. You will not regret it.

WV 10 leads into Princeton, but we turned north on US 19 to CR 7 to find out way to I77, which we followed for about 15 miles to Rocky Gap and took the on-ramp to the Wolf Creek Autobahn, which we had to share with lots of our un-motorized two-wheel comrades. Evidently today was the annual Burkes Garden to Narrows bicycle extravaganza. VA 100 took us to the Eggleston Scenic and Crooked Highway, which then landed us on US 460. We stopped in Newport to chitchat for a bit and for Dave and Seth to decide which of the myriad routes to take back to the SML region. John and I zipped along 460 home, while Dave and Seth chose to take VA 42 back to Newcastle.

Fantastic 280-mile day of twisties and not too much rain.

Chirs,

Sounds like a great time and a great ride.

Any chance you could post a map of the ride. I'm in Western PA, and your ride sounds like something that could be do-able in one day for me.

I ridden in WV on a few occasions, and I loved it. Great rodes and fantastic scenery.

Here's a link to a S&T map. If you don't have S&T, I can create a JPG. Unfortunately, many of these roads don't even show up on a normal map!

Incidentally, Aug 20 was the one-month anniversary of my ST1300-ownership. I've only put about about 7000 miles on it, though!
