In June, 3 friends and I rode from VA to CO, rode around a bit, then rode back. 11 days, 5000 miles. Anyhow, except for all the fantastic roads in CO, the best was the stretch of US 160 from just West of Hilltop MO to Forsyth, near Branson. That's about 160 miles of well-groomed crooked US highway with hardly a straight stretch to be found, and there's only a couple of small towns.

On our way west, we got off near Forsyth due to an accident with traffic backed up, and then made the mistake of re-routing through Branson. Arrgghh! Talk about Hell on Wheels. Traffic creeped through town and we eventually got in the middle left-turn only lane with our blinkers on and rode all the way through (so it only took an hour instead of 3 hours). The silver lining in that cloud was the 50 miles of MO 76 to Cassville, which was darn near as good as 160.

I'll second Chris on this one. I rode 160 in May on my return from North Carolina and it's every bit as good as Chris says it is.

I'll add a third to the above. I rode Hwy 160 from Branson to Poplar Bluff in October of last year and still have vivid memories of those twisties.

Fantastic road!!

If your a "Twisties" rider, SW Missouri and NW Arkansas is hard to beat. I'm not particularly a footpeg dragger, but I sure enjoy the week-ends around here. Any interest in a lunch meeting and tour this fall in this region of the country? If so, I'll try to organize something. Needs to be in October.

Just back from an aborted TexStoc trip (made it as far as Coopers BBQ in Llanno).

For east-west roads drop down to AR16 west of Clinton, AR, and check out AR 88/OK 1 from Mena, AR to Talihmena (sp?), OK.

AR 16 will wear you out - the turns just keep on comming. It isn't like a mountain pass were you can stop and rest at the top or bottom, it is just turn, after turn, after turn...with only the occasional hound dog to distract you from turning.

AR 88/OK 1 is a gorgeous road. Sixty miles of travel along a ridge with hundred mile views to north and south. We passed through there September 22 and saw more bears (3) than cars (2).
