Thanx for all the help so far.
Next: I'm adding a CB/Sirius setup and have a few questions.
Opinions: do we need both speakers on the dash as well as in the helmet (which I wear all the time)?
Do the speakers fit nicely behine the dash grills taht appear to be speaker-type grills?
I was thinking of creating a nice round hole just under the left dash compartment for the helmet connection coiled cord...opinion?
Can I wire to a headlight connection for power?
Will the helmet connection/speakers/mike setup fit with a full-face (Scorpion)?
Whew! Anyone sane enuf to answer all these ridiculous questions will receive a package of my wife's famous (written up worldwide) chocolate cookies. Of course, you'd have to pick them up here in south florida, and if you wanted to give me a hand....
just kidding.

Thanks. this is undoubtedly the best board for the most incredible bike...ever!!!!!!!!!

Stupid me...it's the J&M.
Heard I should get it from Sierra.
Also heard that the antenna is up for discussion...

Ok, I'll try some of these but I'll be a little brief because there's a lot here. I have some questions of my own. Ask for more info if I don't elaborate enough on something.

What speakers? The J&M ones? You only need helmet speakers but if you want externals then you'll have to order them from http://www.davidsilverspares.com/

Do the speakers fit nicely behine the dash grills taht appear to be speaker-type grills? Don't know on the J&M ones. They will if you order the Honda kit from the above URL.

Don't need it but you have to mount it somewhere so that might not be a bad idea. Make sure you can cover it so it doesn't get rain/moisture in it.

Can I wire to a headlight connection for power? I wouldn't do that. Get the Hitachi connectors for the quartet harness and power it from there. If you had any of the electrical Honda accessories added you have it. You can get the matching connectors from here:
Electrical Conection (http://www.electricalconnection.com/electrical-components/hitachi.htm) The 3-Pin is probably the one to use to connect to the quartet harness. That has 12V constant, 12V switched/acc, and Groud.

Will the helmet connection/speakers/mike setup fit with a full-face (Scorpion)? Don't have that but I'm guessing the J&M is going to fit most helmets. Some are harder to rig than others.

Sierra is a good place to get it.

I'll be down the first week of October for my cookies. ;)

I have the J&M headsets in my Scorpion. I found that the entire chin piece will come out and then you can cut holes and mount the speakers. You will need to do this as they won't fit without cutting. I need to take mine apart again as I need to mount the speakers even deaper into the styrofoam. I bought some custom earplugs and they hit the speakers and hurt. I'm thinking of cutting the hole for the speakers all the way through. Not sure about this yet. I didn't mount the microphone in the chinbar. I just stuck it towards the front of the left cheekpad. It would probably work better in from of my mouth, but so far it is working where it is, and I would rather have more room in front.

Do the speakers fit nicely behind the dash grills that appear to be speaker-type grills?

I put in 4 X 6s from Best Buy behind the grills. Power them with a Sony F5710 from Crutchfields mounted in the left fairing pocket.. Picked that particular Sony because it was the cheapest that could be controlled with the Sony RM-XM10 remote AND has an auxiliary input for either an iPod or a XM radio.

It's not a super quick installation, but an easy overnight allowing for the epoxy and resin to harden. See my description HERE (http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3714). Happy to answer any questions.

I have the J&M helmet speakers in an ARAI helmet and they work great. I use thier lower cord, push to talk harness, and then connect to a Mix-it 2 amplifier that blends a SIRIUS satellite radio and a Motorola UHF, 2 watt, two way radio with priority overide for the Motorola. I do not have dash speakers since I always wear a helmet. J&M is located here in Tucson and they have been very helpful in helping me get the setup I wanted. Just so you know, they are coming out with some new equipment for 2006 that will address some of the requests they have had for a system that combines two way radio, AM/FM, and satellite radio in a compact package. They are pretty tight lipped about the specifics at this time but I am sure the quality will be excellent.

Whoa, what can I say? We have to have the best forum board on record. I ask a few seemingly dumb questions, and I get enuf information to practically 'do it myself.'

I ordered the J&M PTT CB handlebar setup, with two sets of helmet spkrs/mic's...one for my full face scorpion, and one for may half face.

No I have to just firgur out the Sirius radio thing. I guess I have to buy another unit, mounting bracket and interface it with the J/M unit. Yes?

This is all new territory for me, my Ultra Classic had all this included, but the ST is a dream. It was pouring today with the hurricane, so I suited up (excellent Nelson Rigg rainsuit) and rode and rode and rode.

Life (on an ST) is great.

Thanks everyone...

We both went the same way. I went from an Ultra Classic to the ST. Haven't seen many mounts for the Sirius radio so that may be a little bit of a challenge.

We mounted the J&M CB's and XM Roady2 satellite radios on our ST1300's and like them a lot. Initially we had some noise issues. Sierra Electronics advised that when wiring, they recommend connecting your CB ground wire directly to the bike's frame and the hot (red) lead to the taillight wire at the rear of the bike. The XM radio was plugged into a 12V acc. socket that was in a totally different circuit. Sierra advised that due to the voltage reduction from 12 to 6 volts for the satellite radios, it left an extra 6 volts running around causing what they refer to as ground looping. The extra voltage creates noise in the radios that is annoying and impairs performance. Isolating the two radios to different circuits helps prevents this. If that fails they sell a ground loop interference isolator filter that plugs in line between the satellite radio and the acc. audio lead coming from the CB radio. Cost is about $40.00 delivered and may be worth the money.

I don't know anything about Sirius, because we went with XM. We chose the Roady2 due to its reputation for good performance and compact size. It doesn't require an FM modulator to work as the acc. audio plug from the CB radio plugs directly into the radio. Works well. Also, we liked it for its compactness. My father-in-law designed a great mount for the radio that mounts on top of the front brake reservoir. (see attached thumbnail photos) It's made of .090 T50/51 aluminum and is very strong and sturdy.

J&M requires the model 477 headset/mic setup as the mic is specifically designed to work with the CB radio. You should be able to get it from any Honda dealer for around $199.00. HDL may have it for less than that. Also, you'll need the 6-pin helmet cords. The headset comes with the upper cord but you need the lower one that matches it. You shouldn't have any problem installing the headset in whatever helmet you have.

Sirius now has a new receiver called the Starmate and it is about the same size as the Roady 2. I ordered the mount from Cycle Gadgets.com for the Roady and the screw holes lined up perfect with the Sirius unit. It mounts to the top of the clutch or front brake reservoir, They provide a plate to mount the antenna to but I moved it to the top of the dash for better reception. I had drop outs when on the bracket. I play the Sirius and my Motorola two way radio through a Mix-it2 amp which has plenty of power. This set up has worked out very well for my riding buddies and myself. Good luck, with a little trial and error you should be able to get exactly what you want.
