Has anybody found or used custom cut 3m clear plastic on the tops of thier saddle bags to protect the paint. I know sooner or later I am going to scuff it with my boot. I want somthing that looks like it belongs there and not like a homemade patch job. A source to buy from and any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks/ Dave

I took my bike into the same place that did the front end of our new car with 3m rock guard. Had the tops of side bags done as well as the lower edge of the fairing, the leading front edge of the fariing, the gas tank (for tank bag, jacket and seat protection), the front 6 inches of the front fender, the front face of the mirrors, the top box on each side of the backrest where my gf's jacket rubs, the front nose below the windsheld and curved section of fairing just above the riders pegs. All in all it took them about 5 hrs and cost me just over $300 cdn. Well worth it for rock, bug and boot proctection.

somebody makes a kit out of that stuff, but I can't remember where I saw it.
I bought some of the 3M stuff from a fellow that's does cars..charged me about $10.00 for a piece about 18" long by 12" wide , made a temp plate .. easy to do.

Go here:
http://www.thetankslapper.com/
The website is klugy but they will sell the saddlebag top protector films separately. Make sure to specify the removable/reusable vinyl or the more permanent 3M polyurethane stuff as you can get either. Good folks to deal with.

I have the tank slapper stuff on mine but you could by a sheet of that stuff and make your own if that's all you want.
I put the tank slapper stuff on and then added even more with a sheet that I bought myself. Cover almost 90% of the tank, then the side covers, tops of the bags, the front of the front fender, and the bottom of the cowling.

StoneGuard shows kits for the 03 and 04 you might call on the 05 stuff.
Go to the bottom of the page for individual items.

Don't even mess with the StoneGuard headlight protector. Go with the Aero-Flow.

$365!! Ouch. Although that is the first kit I've seen that covers the front fairing. The tankslapper kit basically just the tank and the top of the bags. I have no idea why they don't make it for the fairing and fender since that's what takes most of the beating. I wouldn't mind getting this but it's going to take a lot to suck up that much cash for that.

Folks that want to do this must have that same Gene people I remember when I was kid. They would buy an new couch and then trash it by putting on those ugly clear plastic slip covers. (fugly) Every once in awhile you'd see folks throwing out a couch that was shot to hell but still looked brand new.....very bizarre

I now have an '05. Not a clue as to what would be different to not need these. Bags are identical on both models except for color.

Just looked on our Honda Uk site and they're in the 2005 accessories pdf.

Thanks guys. I am sure one of these sights will be able to fix me up. I dragged my boot accross the top of the bag the other day, didn't do any damage but I am sure my luck will run out sooner or later. Just want to cover the tops to protect the bike from me.

Has anyone bought the Sargent Case Protectors for their ST1300? I am paranoid about scratching mine. I wanted to see some pics and get some feedback as to how they look?

Purchased the same 3M polyurethane stone guard 6"x84"at NAPA auto parts for $30 CDN... enough to do several bikes. The stuff has an adhesive backing and is removable but not reusable and can be cut to any shape as mentioned above. Will be installing it on the fairing over this weekend as they keep getting scuffed from my boots.

The bags are made of a different material in the front and are protected.

BTW, when you take your baby to the STealer, remove the bags and leave them at home. Otherwise, somebody is sure to scrape his boots on your bag, or bump them on something.

PS When I took mine in for the 600 mile service, they scuffed my tupperware UNDER the right mirror. Don't know how they could have touched that spot, and of course they have a sign saying they are not responsible for damages. Sounds like they license themselves to do anything they want with no recourse.

I go one step further and remove all the tupperware prior to dealer service.
The last time I was at the stealer for recall work I even took the tank off myself.
