I think my next farkle should be an LED brakelight. I'm looking at Hyperlites mostly, but judging from the whistling noises I must be "open minded." LOL!! I'd appreciate everyone's views and opinions on this subject.

There are quite a few comments on them, do a search and check out the reviews (lights section).

Almost as effective and a lot more fun - you should check out this item ...
The black version looks great on an ST. I have one on my 05, I get a lot of response from people on the street.

They work and even in direct sunlight. I should add them to mine because we get a lot of sunshine delays during my commute where people can't see brake lights because of the direct sunlight coming over the lake.

The Universal LED Light Barsand the Back-Off WigWag Modulator from www.signaldynamics.com or www.customdynamics.com (check both for lowest price) are worth a look. I mounted two light bars with the modulator under the stock rear rack, and am very happy with the results. I can post pics or wiring advice if you're interested.

Enthusiastic vote for Hyper-Lites here. Got the 3-way lights in the group buy this summer and they are fantastic. My wife still teases me about how bright my *** is :)

Thanks! Home-made aluminum brackets - I bought an aluminum strip at Lowes, the width is perfect, and I cut it to be the same length of the reflector bracket. Drilled the holes, filed the edges round, polished it and voila!

I learned that reflectors are not mandated by law in Texas, so I removed the two rear bike reflectors and mounted the hyperlights in their location. I also added reflective tape on the back and sides for safety.

From another posting:
In Texas vehicle inspection rules and regulations are law under the Texas Transportation Code and administered by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
On topic note: Texas does not require motorcycles, motor-driven cycles, or mopeds to be equipped with turn signals and therefor they are not a part of the inspection procedures. Also of interest to you Texas types might be that fog lamps, auxiliary passing lamps, auxiliary driving lamps, and parking lamps are not required to be inspected. Also side reflectors are not required on motorcycles so you can take those butt ugly rear reflectors off, you need to cut the brackets to remove the fronts unless you want the bracket sticking out there.

Rob, thank you! You've earned your very own set of brackets, lovingly made by hand just for you! - I will bring them to the Plano M&G tonite.

No problem at all, Charlie, consider it done. I will have them ready next week. Rob's set was already committed.

I made a similar bracket that mounts on the inside of the reflector bracket I installed the 3 way HyperLites. I will try and post a pic for you.

Now, as much as I like Paco :D , you guys need to look at my mounts tonight....there are none.

Just remove the 3-M tape, put new tape on the top side and stick the little buggers under your taillight lens.

That's almost as cheap as Paco's free mounts. :D :D
Yeap, very nice, low key installation - and cheap - the double sided tape comes with the hyper-lites :-) I thought of installing them there, but I liked the idea of having them as far apart as possible...

I did a similar installation of my Hyper-Lites back in June, and it has worked out very well. Installing them where the reflectors were was the best way I could come up with to mount the lights as high as possible. My wife tells me they are VERY obvious.n As a side note, I did snip the green wire (persistent flash) since the flashers detract from the turning signals.

Paco, did you affix them to your brackets with double sided tape as well?

Ken, yeap. I used the double-sided tape that came with the lights. It worked very well. Thanks for sharing your pics, nice!

Okay I'm late to this party but hey, it's still a good party ;)

I installed the hyper lites also, used their bracket they sell to work with the license plate. I'm very happy with them, ease of install was a big part for me and I was already using the reflector brackets with my tail bag. I would recommend these to anyone for sure.

This is still one of my favorite farkles. Nice job Hank - looks great - and the vehicles behind you will see you or they're blind!

Hey thanks Ken :)
I went for a ride today and met EdsST for lunch, noticed quite a few car drivers behind me stopping quite a ways back.... I was like "now this is kewl" lol ;)

Agreed, one of the top 3 all time farkles!

I have to agree I love the Hyperlites. I have also noticed a lot of people stop further back since I installed the lites. I have always wondered why. They must think it's emergency flashers which works for me.:)

Another vote for Hyperlites! I installed the 3-way lights (running, turn signal, brake) and I have to say that's the best ~$95 I've spent on this bike. There is no question that cars coming up from behind see me much better than before and stop a little farther from me than before. I'll never ride another bike with Hyperlites.

Ok, so let me get this straight, all of these lights being talked about in this thread are in addition to the regular incandesent bulbs, right? I asked b/c I would really light to install LEDs but I have no confidence in my electrical abilities with a motorcycle. I guess you're tapping into a wire somewhere and...I don't even know what else to ask.

Yes, these are add-on lights that give your back end a LOT more visibility. They are made by Hyper-Lite (http://www.hyperlites.com/), and available in a couple of different models. Many here have installed the 3-way lights (http://www.hyperlites.com/3Way.html) - brake/turn/running.

I'm about as electrically inclined as a cinder block, and yet I was able to install these and tap into the back light without problem.

This is my rear light set up: Hyperlites 2x16 (8 red, 8 amber) Diamond lites, Spoiler LED, and Kisan Tailblazar.

WHen the brakes are applied, with the LEDs, it's almost like a light show. If I get rear ended, they better have a white cane and a seeing eye dog in the front seat!

+1 on Hyperlites... slap on some reflective tape or Tailbrights and really make your backend stand out ;) If you get a Hondaline topbox, spend the bucks and get the spoiler for the brake light... it has a great led brake light in it! ;)

hehe Neil, with your set-up I'd pay to see the look on the officers face when the person says "but I didn't see him, I swear"

I don't know if I'll do more or not but I certainly like the way yours looks :)
