Have an 03 ST...I love it a lot, but my SO has a problem with the rear seat...says it's uncomfortable because it tilts forward and pushes her into me...she loves the GL1800 seat (of course!) and even likes the rear seat on the BMW RT....anyone have this problem and if so, how did you correct it? (short of selling the ST, of course) :03biker:

My wife had serious issues with the slant of the stock seat. I took a grinder and hand sand paper and dished it level where her backside sat leaving the front. Then I recessed it for a gel pad and put memory foam over that, then reinstalled the stock cover. She likes it a great deal and prefers that to the Sargent I later purchased. This winter I'll go at the Sargent (without the gel pad, just dish some more and use 1/4 inch of memory foam over all of it.

I am on my fourth seat on the ST1300. I was done with the OE seat after about 50 miles. Tried a Corbin and sold it. Got a Sargent and kinda liked it but my wife still was not comfortable. Finally got a Russell and now she snoozes. Course now I gotta glue some kind of pad on the front of her helmet so our helmets don't bang so much when I put the brakes on... she is complaining it wakes her up.

If nothing is too good for her then get a Russel. I have the Sargent but I'm convinced now that I need a Russel. The Sargent doesn't seem to fit my riding style.

I'm waiting to see if Corbin comes out with a seat to match the solo like they did for the 1100 :D

From my experience, I've got to say that the Russell is THE way to go. While my wife didn't spend any time on the back, what time she did ride back there with the stocker was misery. With the Russell she pronounced it comfortable. It's worth the money spent. You'll like your portion of the seat, too.
FWIW, a friend stopped by here on his way to the west coast and I had a chance to try out his Corbin front seat. (he decided not to take his Smuggler trunk along) It looks like the slope would just send you smashing into the tank, but the way the thing is designed, it actually feels level, and there's no sliding forward. I was pretty surprised.

Thanks to all who replied with suggestions for solving my rear seat problem....final solution seems to be a Corbin replacement seat...I first tried Sargent, which I prefer, but no alleviation of sliding forward problem for my SO...then switched with a fellow ST'er for his Corbin...I don't like it as much as the Sargent for myself, but my wife was delighted. Nor more sliding, and easier to mount and dismout...don't know why; they look almost the same, but she's fine with the Corbin, so I guess it stays. Guess she'll be taking a lot more rides with me now. (Don't know if that's a good thing or not)....Guess I can sell the GL1800. (Don't know if that's a good thing or not)....Anyway, thanks again for your comments and suggestions. lsd :03biker:

Hi lsdpoet,
I sent my Corbin back (for various reasons) and had a leather custom seat made. My wife had the same problem with sliding forward. Check my "Ergo-Corbin comparo" for 2 pics that show the flat/level pillion seat with a kink up at the back: http://groups.msn.com/ST1300US/customseats.msnw?Page=3 (3rd row down)
We are both extremely happy with the result.
Cheers

Thanks for the response, John...I agree that the Corbin is not the answer...my wife is okay, but I find myself constantly sliding forward onto the tank....I think I'm going to eventually wind up with a Russell...$$$ are up there, but in the long run (pun intended) it will probably provide the comfort we both desire....lsd :03biker:
