I got an Escort 8500 and a H.A.R.D. wireless LED warning light for my helmet. I tried the LED light for some time, but found it distracting to have it so close to my face. I happened upon the Marcparnes.com site and liked what I read about the Visual Alert bank of LEDs that is powered by the Escort and not a battery like the H.A.R.D.

I got it the other day. It consists of a bank of 6 LEDs encased in an epoxy block with an angle machined on one side. I decide to mount it inside the upper right 'vent' on the fairing. The vent is pretty much pointed at my head anyway, so it seemed a natural.

I removed the tach/speedo housing cover. I then used a Dremel with a cut-off wheel to make a notch the width of the epoxy block in the upper part of the vent and gave the notch an angle so that the LEDs would point toward me. I fashioned an angle aluminum bracket bent at about 90 degrees. Turning the LED display upside down, I now had a good portion of the epoxy block extending up out of the notch as the block rested on the lower surface of the vent. I adjusted the angle bracket so the the LEDs were point at my head. I drilled the bracket for 1/8th pop rivets. I put two pop rivets coming up through the top surface of the vent and two into the epoxy block. Per Marc, it's OK to drill into the block anywhere that doesn't penetrate the area where the LEDs are encased. I colored the two rivets on the upper under-face of the vent black with a Magic Marker and used black electrical tape to close out the rear to give it look more 'finished' look.

It's really a simple angle bracket install. My only advice would be to sit in the seat and use your eyes and not a ruler to make the cut. Mathematics said to put the notch in the middle, but my eye said to put the notch further outboard to make it look centered in the vent opening.

I'll be at WeSTOC should anyone like to check it out. I'll have the housing cover off so that people can not only see the Visual Alert install, but also my speaker install behind the grills Mother Honda so thoughtfully put in all our fairings.

John,

This looks like a great find. I'll be adding a radar detector soon and this looks like just the ticket, so to speak, to go along with it. When you have some time, it would be great if you could post some pictures of the install.
