Just checked the tread depth on my oem tires, and am pleasantly suprised, I am not an agressive rider by no means so I really didn't know what to expect out of the stones from reading some of the posts here, but, here are my calulations on mileage. The bike now has 12410 miles on it. The front tire has one thirty second to the wear bar, started out with 4/32 new to the wear bar, predicted mileage is about 4K to the 32nd or at least 16k just to the wear bar. The rear was changed at 3700 miles due to a nail in it, the present one has almost 8700mi. on it, it has 3/32 left to the wear bar, presently getting around 1800mi to the 32nd, projected mileage should be around 14k to the wear bar. No appreciable cupping on the front or rear, Perfectly happy with that. :biker:

Glad to read that. I have 6500 miles on my new 05 ST, and was wondering:
---How did you measure the tread?
---Do you think the intense heat down here in South Florida will affect tire life?
---I believe the roads are mostly crushed coral here.
---What will you replace with? Brand, size, etc?

Thanks,

I have a tire depth gauge and I don't remember where I got it from, had it for years. Will replace with the same tires, as I have a set in the garage, always keep a spare set on hand just in case.

Dannyk,

Do your mount and balance your tires yourself?

Danny, that tire life is remarkable. My OEM Bridgestones were toast at 8,000 miles -- into the tread bars. The rear was as worn as any tire I'd ever had on a motorcycle, which kind of freaked me out.

I wonder if the cooler temperatures of the UP result in cooler operating temperatures for the tires and add to tire life? Probably the non-aggressive riding style is most important. It's hard to ride an ST gingerly!

Doing a lot better than mine, have about 8500 miles them, the rear might have a couple thousand miles left at best, the front is in great shape yet, but having them replaced next Sat. Probably a bit early, but would rather be safe than in the middle of no place and have the back one go.

They have last longer than I expected considering some of the road conditions I've ridden on this season. I'm staying with the Stones and if they do as well as the first set will most likely continue to run them on the ST.

Bones, don't know about cooler temps as this year was one of the hottest ones that I can remember here in the UP. These miles were also accumulated on a trip out to the rockies, temps were in the high 90s everyday and some topped into tripple digits while we were on the road, also a trip into Missouri and Arkansas and east into Ohio this spring. I think it may be the right hand that contributes mostly to tire wear, found out many years ago that aggressive throttle contributes to much more expense no matter what you drive. :biker:

I'm afraid I can't help it. The right hand to pleasure center connection is just too strong. I've worn out two sets of stones (well worn) at barely 7K each. :04biker:
