I don't know if these will fit in our bikes, or if they are sturdy enough, but interesting concept:

I have tried the PIAA higher wattage brake light lamps, but the blue tint acrually put out less light than stock. All of the LED retofit bulbs were much weaker than the stock incandescent, they are so directional that they don't fill the tail light lenses with light. I think only a purpose built LED assembly, like on higher end cars will offer any real improvement.

I agree. LED's seem pretty directional and you're not going to get any reflected light with them in a stock tail light assembly.
I tried to coax the folks at Clear Alternatives into making a custom tail light assembly but they told me there wasn't enough demand. Their front turn signal only looks good on the '03, so go figure.

There are quite a few LED lights with a circle of LED's pointing out-over in addition to the LED array facing directly forwards. Unfortunately i've not been able to find any with the stock fitting, they all seen to be the pin fitting.

Can't seem to find them on the site - did see some LED's but no push-fit ones
