I have been wanting to ride that hwy for a long time. It used to be the 666 hwy and I quess a lot of people freaked out about The Devil Hwy thats why they changed it to 191. I have a friend that went there in March this year and he wasn't impressed but he did it on a Valk. I hear that it has some of the best twisties around. People that live in that area love it.

I was on 191 this summer, on my way from Virginia to Tahoe. I was heading north when I came on a motorcycle accident scene. There was a blue FJR1300 down and the rider was already on his way north to the hospital in Springerville. He was from Tuscon and he'd been riding northbound with a fellow on a red ST1300. Another fellow southbound on a KLR650 had stopped. We chatted for a bit and then I rode on north with the ST1300-rider. I gave him a card, but can't remember his name. If anyone knows anything about the incident, I'd like to find out how the FJRider fared.

That is one seriously messed up FJR... and he's an IBA member too.
Hope he made out okay,
Mark
Dang,
On MS Streets/Trips 191 looks pretty crooked... Maybe the guy on the
Valk had to stop and pick up his front wheel to get around the
corners??
Putt...

I rode 191 from Alpine last September on my Trip through Southern NM and AZ. Incredible road..I had no traffic what so ever the entire ride.
I am leaving in about 12 days for another trip. This time heading to Northern NM and Colorado camping on the ST. I just got a new camera do I can take lots of pictures.
Here is a link to the pictures I took from last falls trip. There a are several specifically from 191.

Chris and I took the 1100 and the 1300 up 191 (south to north) a couple of months ago. Great road with some pavement problems near the mines (they keep moving the road because they want to get the copper out from under it).
Caveats:
Big Horn sheep, deer, elk and small animals will be in the area (not to mention cows).
Decreasing radius turns have been discussed in another thread.
Knowing that it will be cold (or at least cool) up there (highest through-road in AZ) and hot in the low portions is important...
However; I think the best advice given yet is to pull over when you want to do some sightseeing, *really* applicable to this route...

Seems like, long ago and far away, this road used to be US 666?
Friend of mine and I took it three~four years ago, some local ranchers were having a cattle drive on it. We meandered over to 89A, up through Jerome, where my friend commented he thought 89A was more "challenging" than 191!

Yep, I thought so...
