Has anyone else heard this complaint about the ST?

OK, so no one is going to bite on that, eh? I thought I'd throw it out there, but it's a complaint that I've heard from a few agencies. One agency said it's too much like a crotch-rocket. When I told one sergeant that it's not that much faster than a BMW, he said, "Beemers are too fast, too!" I thought that line of thinking was interesting...

Charlie, not sure about the permission settings for these forums. I logged on and the moderator queue had some posts that I approved. Now there's another post. I'll leave it there so you can see what's up.
I assume anyone with a secondary usergroup for this forum should not be moderated.
IslandCopp, once that's worked out there will probably be more activity. Right now all the posts are moderated and have to be approved before they show up. I looked but can't seem to see what needs to be tweaked and since Charlie set it up I'll let him do it so I don't mess up anything he started.

I think everyone who has ridden a Police ST1300 would agree that if you ride it like you would a Kawasaki,( giving it the revs and slipping the clutch to go after someone ) you are going to get ejected off the bike. Because the bike is so smooth and quick, it will be difficult to stay at the speed limit until you get used to it. That's my 2 cents worth.

My Captain said that we will not be getting ST's while he is our commander because they are too fast. Yes, they are fast, but it is a training issue. I have had my personal ST upto 149mph indicated in the middle o nowhere in Wyoming a year ago. Very stable.
Chances are, if you intend to survive your police career, you won't do that often on your ST. With that said, county and state agencies chasing speeders on the interstate will find the ST to be very impressive.
We ride Harley Roadkings in Seattle and they are a good fit for city use and they are a crowd pleaser with the public.

Yeah, I did that once or twice... The front wheel WILL come up off the ground. A lot of care needs to be taken when transitioning to the ST from a Kaw or HD, learning a new clutch/throttle position, etc. It's very easy to forget what you're riding when you go after a speeder in those first few days/weeks. I recommend some good initial training to get that new clutch/throttle position to become 2nd nature quicker...
Either that, or mount some drag wheels about 6ft. behind the bike...:D
