For those of you that use Ram-Mounts for GPS and audio equipment I thought I'd let you know that they have released a new locking knob which helps to add some security.

I bought two from gpscity for use with the 2610 mount and also securing the cradle for my XM radio.

http://www.gpscity.com/item-npi-1.0''-ball-locking-knob/ramknob3l.htm

The large size of the knob actually makes it easier to tighten the mount. Even though the knob is a large diameter I was able to use it with the short 1.75" arm for the 1" ball (see attach photo of XM mount)

Once the lock is turned the knob is free to rotate. I thought that with the knob free it would create a rattling noise when riding but I found that this was not the case.

I gotta say, this is one farkle that I am glad I only paid $10 for and thought what the heck. The only thing it locks is the cradle and the arm. They can still steal the GPS by pressing the press here to remove tab. What was I thinking??

You can get a Touratech locking mount to lock the GPS. I didn't get that when I first mounted mine because the arm could simply be removed.

With the combo of the locking knob and the locking mount, it should be "less" steal-able.

Or if you use the Garmin MC mount it has a small security screw that keeps it locked although I'm sure if someone yanked hard enough it would probably come off but hopefully that's enough deterant to keep someone from stealing in the daylight hours.

You know a nylon cover with a pull string closure goes a long way too. I made one to put over my GPS and then have a pull string closure on it with a small clip. Sure they know something is there but are they going to pull off the cover and then try to figure out how to get it out of the mount?

You guys sure are elaborate with your helmet holders. :-) I usually stuff my gloves into my helmet, helmet over the helmet holder, and .. out of sight, out of mind.

Any place I'm not comfortable with doing that, I tend to not be comfortable parking my vehicle at all either, so.. this works out well for me.
