I finally got my nerve up and met the ZX-CBR gang at the DQ (!) last night. I had met some of them before and they seemed nice enough, had heard about 1 or 2 of them having gone down earlier this season.

So anyway, we gas up and go. First group is strictly 600 class - no way was I riding with them, for the benefit of both. The second group seemed a bit closer to my age and two guys were on VFR's, one even had the rails for hard bags - hot dog ! ... so we got going and all seemed well. Up a local highway doing 75-85 mph but not over 100, I thought ok so far.

Then came the side roads ... I knew there was a police station in the area but we were well clear of it. I guess the first group must have zoomed by because we were greeted by a car, lights ON, coming the other way and one guy was pulled over. The rest cleared the area, so I took that clue and also made haste down a backroad.

I went by the coffee shop where they might have gone but who do I see but my Gold Wing buddies ! ... so I go in and we have a good laugh about this - and yes I got some GL teasing. What the heck, I rode home with the Wingers :)

How bizarre. One would think you would meet up with the GW guys at the DQ.

I would suggest not to ride in a large group(s) if you want to ride hard. Keep it down to 2 or 3 bikes max.

Okay, no joke and no sarcasm: What's a squid? Is it defined by age? Brand? Style of bike? Style of riding?

Well, it typically means sport bike riders performing stupid stunts like wheelies or stoppies... somewhat of a stereotype as most of us would love to play with a sport bike... but hey, if I can take all the Wing comments you guys throw out the sport bike guys can take a little razing as well.

Squid is commonly short for Squirrely Kid. Typically a sport bike rider. Usually has more hp than brains as is evidenced by the gear (or lack thereof). Generally wearing sneakers (sometimes sandals), t-shirt or tank top, jeans in the winter and shorts in the summer, occasionally wears gloves.

There are a few acronyms for SQUID too...

Super Quick Until I Die

Stupid QUick Inevitably Dead

Super QUick Inadequately Dressed

They all point to the same type of rider.

Okay, then no, I wouldn't ride around squids. I do sometimes ride with a few very fast guys on sportbikes. I enjoy it. And yes, I get a lot of teasing about my mini-wing. (the ST). Then I tease them after my mini wing outruns some of them in the twisties. It's all in fun.

What's a squid?

Some say it's a contraction of "squished kid."

I should this group some justice ... they wear proper gear, even if a little overdone but hey, they do dress properly. :)

I haven't seen any 'shorts, t-shirt, sandals but $1,000 helmet' type this year at all ! ... used to see them crossing the ferry ... just shook my head. ;)
