Looking at various communication systems and trying to find out anything I can about the J&M CB-2003 system. Does anyone have experience with one? Planning to use primarily for Bike to Car communication and intercom.

Maybe you could tell us what the "CB40 system" is?
I have the J&M CB-2003 (CB/intercom/audio) unit, but nowhere have I heard of, or can find on their web site, the CB40 system.

John,
That's the one I'm looking for. Found it on several sites and didn't get the name right. What can you tell me about yours? Are you happy with it? Any limitations? How is the sound quality at speed? Etc...

I like the design and we already have a portable CB for the car. The Push to Talk button looks like a great design.

I have the CB-2003.

Not sure really on how well the cb functions as I don't use that part of the system much and as yet found someone to help me test it out. I also have the Cell Phone/GPS/Radar Audio Integration. The system does work and I would still buy it again but I wish some things would be improved. I had a J&M system on my old 86 VFR and the intercom was voice activated and it would cut the music off when in use. On the CB-2003 its not voice activated so wind noise may be a problem also your fighting the music volume at the same time. I love the way the radar turns off the music to one ear and the GPS also. Cell phone works great also. Also having the volume control for you mp3/walkman on the CB unit makes life so much easier. I've been told mic placement in the helmet is key to keeping wind noise down. When riding solo I just turn the intercom part off so its a not a factor.

I highly recommend the J&M audio unit (http://www.jmcorp.com/SeeProducts.asp?PF=24). It's well made, easy to use, light in weight and crystal clear. I really like the 3 separate volume controls: one for CB, one for intercom and one for separate music input. These allow CB, intercom and auxiliary input to all be monitored at the same time.

I've wired the J&M unit into my stereo Honda radio and can also plug in a CD or MP3 player. The various wiring leads to a power source, the CB antenna, pillion intercom, and the pillion's PTT switch for CB. It comes with it's own hard-wired noise filter and clarity is excellent.

The buttons and knobs are well positioned and simple to work with gloves on; and the large display is easy to read. Talking between rider and passenger is easy and natural, with any music input slightly attenuated (like normal conversation in a room with the radio playing). Gone is the clipping and missed syllables of VOX as there is no need to utter a grunt or other noise to start the intercom. Just talk and be heard.

The only down side as far as I am concerned is that J&M gear is not cheap (especially in Australia at current exchange rates); but nor is other quality, purpose-built gear with this level of technology!

Here are a couple of old links to the MSN-ST1300 group on J&M Audio gear:

I've been using the 2003 since June and I love it.. John's description is right on the money. :D Also, from what I understand, the warranty/customer service with J&M is superb.

I agree, just purchased one and love it. I chose the elite headset. I needed a high end intercom for talking with the wife, had wasted so much money on other systems and did not want to waste any more. I am very pleased but have not used the CB radio yet.

Check out this web site;)
