My TourMaster Elites are about 10 years old and I really like them. They have begun to let a little air in through the seams in the fingers but it isn't really bad even on the worst days. My hands stay dry except during total raging, driving downpours. For cold and rain I use a pair of lightweight lined gloves with rubber overgloves. This is an excellent combination. I have ridden in the low 30's but not the 20's so there may be something better but I would really recommend that you take a look at these gloves.

I am also considering winter gloves. The Held Hawk gloves seem to be nice, but I can't find reviews for them. A friend recommended heated gloves, like the Gerbings... still undecided, but Held are well recognized as excellent gloves, so I may go with the Hawks.

Gerbing electric gloves. Unlike heated grips (which are nice), the gloves warm your whole hand, especially the backs which get the brunt of the cold wind blast.

There is NOTHING better than heated gloves for riding at temps in the 20s. For a short trip heavy, insulated gloves may keep you warm, but eventually the cold will seep through. And they are bulky, heavy, and make it harder to work with the controls.
Gerbings are thinner and lighter, more comfortable, and will continue to make heat no matter how long you ride. Highly recommended. Widder gloves also work very well, but are pretty bulky themselves.
To be fair, though, there is a downside: If the wiring fails, you're left with a thin pair of gloves that aren't going to do anything to keep your hands warm. On a long winter tour, I'd take either a second pair of gerbings or a regular pair of insulated gloves as backup.

There is an option that may combine the strengh of heated gloves with the convenience of regular winter gloves. For $79 Gerbings will add a heating element to your gloves, with a lifetime warranty. This means that I can get the Held Hawk (or even the Held Steve) gloves and add the heating wiring and only plug them in when it gets really cold. It can get expensive after adding the thermostat and adaptors, and what not, but it may be the best way to go, especially given that Gerbings offers a lifetime warranty.
The Gerbings rep I talked to, Bob, a nice guy, told me that some riders attach the harness to the jacket for a "set-and-forget" installation. When the weather gets really cold plug the gloves into the sleeve's connectors and plug the harness to an powelet under the seat. Bob said that the heating element is so think that can hardly be noticed with the gloves on...
This seems like my answer. I am afraid to add up the costs for my glove solution, though...
Texxter,
Dont go with the Steve's for winter gloves. They are really too thin, and to thin to even get a heating element into. I use a pair of Steve's. Excellent gloves for summer or mild weather fall riding.

New to ST riding so haven't tried the heated glove route yet, but I do have the Tourmaster Polar-Tex gloves. Kinda bulky due to their thickness but they are warm. They kept my hands warm on my cruiser in cold weather for a decent amount of time. Oh, and they're waterproof too.

I ended up getting a pair of Olympia Ultima winter gloves. Quite comfortable and warm, but we'll see how they handle Texas winter days. $61 from NewEnough.com. Perhaps a pair of rubber gloves over them may improve its waterproof qualities in case of heavy rain! :D
Gloves look and feel good, and price is reasonable.
