I would like to mount my camera to a Turbo City Tom dash shelf. I'd like to use a short ram ball mount with something that allows me to "swivel" the camera with out loosening any type of clamp.
The idea is to have a semi fixed camera but be able to pan it left or right with out detaching it.
Ideas?

Dan,
Is the ball on this compatible with the Ram mounting products ?

I just did that. See the photos below:
However, I used MotorCycle Larry's reservoir cover ram ball mount.

Any hard ball, like metal or hard plastic, will allow you to swivel on the ball. The Ram mounts have a rubber coating that will grip too much. I made a nylon ball for my camera and it works good, holds secure but I can still move it around. It may be an option if you can't get that feature in a mounting plate.

I have mounted my camera to this long before I had a dash shelf. Now that I have a dash shelf I still have it mounted to the handle bars. Based on how much my GPS vibrates on the dash shelf I don't think my camera would take very good video or pictures from the shelf. I take a lot of pictures and video from the mount right through the wind screen. To take pictures off the bike I just unscrew the camera from the mount. When I put the camera back on it lines itself up on the mount. Just remember to glue the little screw in the ram mount or it may fall out or get stuck in the camera. (Don't ask how I know this:) )
