Jackets Waterproof jacket

Hi

I have been riding with a Bellstaff Typhon jacket for many years, I like the jacket but it never been waterproof as they said...

So I am tired now to get wet... and I am looking to get a replacement I know tha Rukka is full waterproof but maybe a little expensive... My question is : Is there any other good jacket in the industrie that is really waterproof beside the Rukka...???

You can probably purchase the rain liner for the Motoport jacket. I've ridden in downpours for hours and remained bone dry. I think the liner is about $130.

I have the Olympia Voyager. The jacket is waterproof & windproof and the liner is also waterproof & windproof, plus the liner can be worn as a stand-alone jacket.

The Voyager is a waist-length jacket but the AST is the same jacket in 3/4 length.

The thing about those - You won't get wet and you won't get cold....

I also have the Motoport. Nice, except if you have been riding without the liner & it starts raining, you have to put the liner on UNDER the jacket. I carry Frogg Togs with that one. In it's defense I have been riding in AZ in 90+ temps with the liner in & have been comfortable. Motoport has two liners, one is waterproof & windproof and the other liner is insulating. I only have the water/wind proof one.

I have ridden in some pretty heavy rains while wearing my First Gear Kilimanjaro and have stayed dry.

I rode all day in the heaviest rain I've ever ridden in last year down in VA and PA with my belstaff merlin and did not get wet at all. My cheap rain pants however,did leak at the crotch but not until after 6 or more hours. I just hope the Merlin stays as waterproof.

Most textiles need to be re-waterproofed now and then....even the Aerostich garments. Most manufacturers outline the procedures and recommend what water proofing products to use. I have several terrific Belstaff jackets that I've worn and worn....and redone the waterproofing with great success.

I thought Scotch Guard was off the market. What product are you using to re-waterproof your textile jacket ? TIA

I use a Frank Thomas Aqua Force in Bumble Bee. This jacket has been life cycled out of inventory but I would look at something like this.

I purchase jackets at Cycle Gear since they have a No Questions return policy. I am very happy with my Frank Thomas weather-proof jacket.

My approach is to wear a jacket that vents really well (or a mesh one), and buy a rainsuit for those times when it really rains. Especially on the ST, it's just so easy to keep it in one of the bags so it's always handy.

Scotchgard is available again. They did take the old stuff off the market. I used on my Roadcrafter once a year

Using an AST with scotchguarded zipperflaps and seams. Never been wet in it.

Until we went to NS,and it rained hard for a full day. We were soaked in the AST's. Have decided on the Darien set. Got the pants. Jacket is next.

I like the Nikwax products

First wash jacket with Nikwax.. techwash
Then waterproof with Nikwax TX.Direct
Your base layer can be washed in Nikwax basewash

You can purchase it at good outdoor store. REI, Dicks

Good jacket, great price. So far mine has been water proof but I haven't tested it in a real downpour yet. Neat feature is that the liner can be used as a stand alone jacket.

I have never been wet in my Firstgear Kilimanjaro. I'm now on my second one as I wore ther first one for so many years.

I even have a brand new sand and grey one for sale in the classifieds size large !

I redo mine with Kiwi Camp Dry, available at Walmart's everywhere. They have a new version that is odorless. get that one.

This jacket is basically the sport version of the 3/4 Rainier. Paul at NewEnough says, "The jacket is about as waterproof as any I?ve seen."
