Does anyone wear armored shirts under their jackeys? I am thinking about getting something like this. For some reason I don't feel as protected in my jacket as I should, probably because of my slow speed getoff (more like fall over) in the rain and the rains are comming again.
I used to have an Alpinestars and felt very protected. I would have gone back to them, but, their styling leaves much to be desired.
I ride too many miles per year to have this in back of my mind.

Any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated.

Icon field armor may be the answer. I have started collecting by purchasing the leg armor first. I will probably own all of it at some point.

Get gear that fits right and is well made, so that you are protected in a get off.

Cycleport has their armor setup in a spandex undergarment. Their armor is extensive. Wrist->around elbow. Collar->around shoulder. Full back. Ribcage and chest.

Funny you should ask, just improved my protection. After exhaustive research, I settled on Bohn Body Armor ( www.actionstation.com ). I purchased the 'CoolAir Chest and CoolAir ProRacer' back protection. ($258) I also upgraded all the armor in my Joe Rocket Alter Ego jacket/pants with the Bohn Armor Suit & Jacket kits. ($90). Installing the new hip protectors in the pants was a minor technical challange, but worth it. I've been commuting to work with this system plus Sidi 'Way" boots and haven't been unconfortable or stiff. As the armor warms from the body, it gets flexible. We'll see how comfortable it is in the AZ summer heat (115F).

I often wear the Dainese Safety Jacket 21. It has back protector, shoulder and elbow/forearm armor, and chest protection.

I wear it when I sport tour. But for regular touring, finding a jacket that provides good protection, or possibly upgrading armor might be more convenient.
