Saw a red ST -- 75th Ave in Glendale around 12:30pm

Anyone here?

(I never do this, but I rarely see another ST around here)

I am meeting a friend at 7 and heading up there. I live at Ellesworth and Brown. We will head up through Fountain Hills, so maybe by 7:45?

I will post if we are leaving earlier.

Way off topic, but I received a job offer to move to Phoenix. How is the cost of living out there. I am pretty familiar with homes, but fuzzy on utilities, car ins. etc.

Same off topic question, but nice to have a second opinion before I pull the trigger on taking this job in Phoenix.

What is the cost of living like out in the Phoenix area. Car ins, utilities, etc.?

Where are you moving from? I am a 6 year transplant from the northeast and have no regrets. Where you come from may (or may not) make a difference.

Housing here in the last 3-4 years has gotten crazy-- like many areas around the country....but this housing market has been 'white hot' for awhile and until just the last few months, housing inventories were way down. I am starting to see more realtor signs and homes seem to be turning over a little slower. I suspect that in the near term, things will cool off a little but I would not be expecting to find many bargains. On the positive side, this may indicate a strong market and once you do find a home...your value/equity should remain good.

Property taxes were lower for us...but to register a vehicle in AZ is very pricey. In PA, I would pay $40.00 for a sniff test and $36.00 for registration. Here, it seems to depend on the value of your vehicle. Newer vehicle: expect to pay $100s

Gas-- Prem currently is $2.96, low grade is $2.69
Food/milk/beer/clothes, etc-- no difference.
Utilities are different than we experienced in the northeast. Example, we run our A/C here from about May to October-- but probably won't even think about using heat until December-- and then only overnight. It kind of works it's way out to be the opposite. In PA-- we would run A/C for June/July/Aug and then heat from Sept through April.

300 days of sunshine on average. Rain here is an 'event'
Vegas is an easy plane ride away, skiing in Utah/CO--same thing, San Diego is 6 hours by car. Need to see snow?-- an hour north by car in winter.

Traffic is not getting any better. This area has expanded (and continues to expand) dramatically. Congestion has increased greatly-- not as bad as L.A. or N.Y.C. yet, but getting worse. However, many roads are new, pot holes are rare and Phoenix is flat (big grid) most roads are straight/flat. Piece of free advice-- find a house near the job. It will help with your sanity.

Most people that we have met are from somewhere else. Kinda strange, but I have only met a handful of Arizona 'native' residents.

Arizona is brown. If you come from an area with alot of green (trees, etc) expect a different landscape. However, it is remarkable to look and if you hike--this place is nirvana.

Hope this brief overview helps....let me know if you have any other questions. Glad to help out.

Thank you for the tips I appreciate it very much. I am taking the weekend to consider the offer, so we'll see how it plays out.

This post got me thinking. Trust me that's a really rare thing. :D

I've been noticing alot of ST's on the roads, mostly 05's and there are more and more Arizona guys on this board.

The weather is really nice lately, so why don't we get together on of these days for a ride up to Prescott, Payson, Globe, etc... or just meet for some coffee or lunch to compare farkles and admire each other's bikes?

Just a thought, I'm throwing out there.

If I get out there I'd be up for meeting some riding buddies.

K9,

Great thought....I'm up for anything. Rode with "Mark" from Tempe two weeks ago and we were thinking the same thing. Any suggested day, I will be there. Mark mentioned possibly doing a breakfast loop on a Sunday or even during the week.

Let's get a group together....I am tired of hearing about the Texas guys getting together every week!!

I have an activities run with my Harley group this Sunday (wait til they find out I sold it....LOL) and then the next two weekends are occupied with SEMA. After that I am pretty free, sounds like a great idea.

lieu, AZST covered it and I agree I love it here (8 years)

I run a local website for motorcycles as well / www.swrides.com / and we have a Bike Nite meet every week and multiple rides. So joining up should not be an issue! We certainly can give the Texas Guys a run for thier money!!
