Attention all you Houston area riders, Sunday a few folks are heading over to Lafayette La for the Ride For Kids charity event benefiting the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. I would like to extend an invite to anyone who would like to join us. We are leaving early Sunday morning in order to be in Lafayette by about 0900 or so. There will be a group ride with Police escort around Lafayette and then the ride back to Houston. It will be a pretty long day but it is for a good cause. If interested please let me know. Ride Safe!

It's a good ride for a great cause. I participated with the Wisconsin group, and will do so again next year.

I have to echo what STeve said about it being a great ride and will also ride in it again next year. We have 247 bikes and raised a little over 80K this year.

For those newer members who didn't know this;
The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and it's activity, Ride for Kids, was started and is still run by Mike Traynor, long time ST1100 rider. I'm not sure if Mike was ever a STOC member, but he used to attend EaSTOC when it first started, back in the mid-90's, and used to be active on the st1100 liST.
The ST1100 liST sort of adopted RFK's as its favorite charity, and many donations have been made, over the years in the memory of Derek Catt (STOC 001), the founder of STOC.
It's a nice tradition, one that I would like to see continue, if you feel moved to do so.
Thanks...
Don...

Sweet!!!!
Just got back from Lafayette. 497 miles total. Had a great day! We (the group I rode with) managed to get thru a couple of mishaps with little or no damage. The first leg of the ride was for me and my neighbor (wing) to ride out to I-10/Garth rd. to meet several other riders. My neighbor was leading the way at about 0430 this morning when he went into a 90 degree corner a little too hot. I was trailing and thought to myself that he was not going to be able to make this turn at this speed, my ST might be able to but no way a wing. Sure enough he realized the mistake and braked hard thru the corner and left the surface going into the ditch. He got the bike stopped on the down slope, wing laying on its right side but because of the slope of the ditch it was basically sitting upright. He had rolled off the bike to the right hand side and got up with no injuries. He went ahead and rode the bike on down into the ditch and then back up the slope. Damage assesment... little bit of rub under the right side bodywork... man if the bike had rolled over to the left it would have ended upside down in the ditch and we would have had extensive damage for sure. Well he is awake for sure now...
Then we are at the meet point and the last riders pull up, husband on wing, wife on vtx1800(nice bike by the way) when she pulls up to the stop her boot gets caught on the footpeg and over she goes. She was at a stop so no damage there either... man do we keep going at this point or what?
The rest of the ride out to Lafayette and back go without incident aside from a few wrong turns to do some extra sight seeing. Considering what Louisiana has been thru they had a great turn out.
My ST is safely tucked away in the garage.... all is well...
Later, ride safe.
