View Full Version : Staintunes Install

I just put a set of Staintunes on my '03 1300 earlier today. Sound is great, but fit is not what I expected. If I snug the pipes in as they should be so the little ridge on the muffler pipe is square with the exhaust pipe, the hangers don't match up with the holes. The holes on the muffler fall behind the hanger. The only way I can get the 'tunes installed is to pull them out slightly from the exhaust pipe, but then they are at a slight angle and they don't seal fully. Any suggestions??

John,
I don't know if this photo will help but it shows how my Staintune seats. It appears to have a slight angle also. But I've got no problems with leaks.
It seems the instructions said something about applying some high-heat silicone around the pipe. I can't locate the original instructions to be sure.

Pat, your photo is pretty close to what I've got, but in my case there's more separation and more angle between the muffler and pipe. They didn't include any instructions in the box, but their Web site recommends silicone.
Love the sound of these little puppies. Only downside is that Maggie now wants a set for her '05!! I should have guessed when she agreed so quickly to let me get a set.

Wurth exhaust assembly paste.. this is the BEST stuff I've ever found for doing a slip on http://www.carcareonline.com/detail.asp?product_id=11373

For what they charge for these things , they should come with there own installer :)
I'd still like to see a set of 4 into 1 headers but that won't happen :(
I don't think the ST1100 crowd ever saw a set either did they ?

Ground clearance would probably be an issue with a full system. Where would the headers be routed?
I don't think there is a full system for the VFR either. It's tough to build a 4 into 1 for a V4.
I don't mean to start a fight, but I'm surprised at the poor quality (from looking at the pictures) of the Staintunes. They're more money than my 2Bros and don't seem to fit as nicely, and come without instructions.

Installed a pair on mine, no leaks no silicone no problems , they have been on for sometime now and no discoloration at all, they are simply the best thing you can put on this machine bar none!!!!!!!!!! My friend with the honda dealership is getting the franchise himself...hes tryed 2 brothers on a few bikes and all most always, they discolor,,,plus the 2 bros are to sport biker looking ......they look ok on my brothers 05 repisol , just not classy enough for the st!!!!!!....I even talked to two different st1300 owners over the summer at bike night and they said they liked there two brothers but wished they would have bought the staintunes  ......you get what you pay for............................................... ...one other note if you do the pipes you should also do the k+n filter and 61 psi pressure reg from turbo city too!

My Staintunes fit perfectly, and though they are pricy I find the quality is unsurpassed.
Instructions?? Who needs instructions! As the sheet that came in my Staintunes box states, (see attached below), "This fitting instruction for motorcycles with systems that are so simplistic that there are no instructions needed." :D

If you leave the bags on you can't see how ugly the pipes are ;)

I bought the C2's with the aluminum finish (everyone can look in the gallery), but I wish I had bought these. They have the M2 tip. I didn't know they would work.

Be glad you got the alum finish most of the rest discolor. I plan to chrome the wheels someday or buy chromed wheels ...so the staintunes were the way to go plus I hurd the 2 bros were too load

2Bros are louder than Staintunes? I thought it was the other way around. Truth be told, I think they're basically the same pipe with different mounting systems. The Staintunes do have removable baffles, though. The M2 tips do as well.

I do have question how do you like that windshield ...still waiting for mine.. the guys making a special order ice blue no vent stock size for me...does it scatch easy ? its not sappose to...that kind of stuff....

Warning: Thread hijack. I love the Cee Bailey. It's a little too big in 100+degree heat, but now that the fall is upon us I will stay warm. It does seem to scratch easily, but it may be due to the cover I put on every night. I can still see through.
WHAT!!!! Staintunes are way different.. Biggest difference being is that the Staintunes do not need to be repacked every 10-15K miles as do the Two Bros.. unless you like the sound of pipes with blown out packing :-)

Put Staintunes on two days ago on my 05, did notice the mounting bracket holes didn't quite line up when the slip-ins were all the way in to where the ring was flush. Pulled out slightly attached & tightened.
No exhaust leaks, but was/am a little concerned the left can doesn't have the heat shield that the stocker has. Do the 03 & 04 left stock cans have the heat shield??
Love the sound!!! Now if I can find enough daylight to do FPR, Throttle Sync & K&N mods I'll be Stoked!!!

The boys down under sent me a post asking for a couple of pix. so they could run them by their engineering guys. I'll let you know what I hear back from them. Those suckers do sound awfully sweet!

The pipes just dont need a heat shield, because they really dont get that hot, try tapping your finger quickly on the top of the pipe after a ride youll find you won't get burned I tryed the same trick with the stock pipes and it was like touching a hot element on the stove top, I would say this is why the color of the stainless steal on mine has still not discolored yet

I imagine that without the catalysts in there, these pipes run a lot cooler than the OEMs making the heat shield unnessary.

If I'm next to you with my Two Brothers Racing you won't hear yours.

Oh, yeah. Now that the rains are setting in up north, I may need to take some vacation time and head down your way so we can compare.

Here's a pix. of the problem. Just got off the phone with Ricki at Staintunes (love that time difference). Sounds like a stand up guy. He'll be checking with their engineers but he's likely to send me a new set. Tough to be that. Probably didn't hurt that I told him Maggie was waiting in the wings for a set for her '05!

I have to leave for work at 4:30 am so I keep the baffles in, but the sound is still very pleasant. I picked them over 2Bros because they did have the baffle/no baffle option. No problems with fit or discoloration. I just shoved the end into the header pipe, did whatever it took to get the mounting holes to line up, and tightened the clamp down (with no paste). No leaks.
You still have to loosen and twist the right one out of the way for a tire change as the axle bolt just doesn't quite fit as it's pulled out.
Happy to be rid of the sewing machine sound!

Well, even with Ricki's help, I only got a partial solid installation. One side is buttoned down tight, but there's still a gap on the other like the picture I posted. It's one of those deals I'll live with.

OK how about 12 to 14hp? ...three mods though, pipes,k+n,and a 61 psi pressure reg......the filter and reg cost another $179 for both ....cuts down the down shifting and smooths it out even more!(ALOT DIFFERANT!).....
