:03biker: Hi, I just placed order for pro-7 autocom. I'm looking for the best place to mount the unit and where to pick up the power for the unit. Thanks Ed:03biker:
I have a Autocom 5 mounted on an ST1100. Autocom installers put it in at Americade 2 years ago. It is under the seat at the tail. If you want, I can take a picture or 2 if it would help.

I installed active 7 smart in the tail under the seat. My music lead goes down the right side and comes out btwn the fairing and the tank for access to mp3/am/fm radio velcroed to the lid of the right pocket. my frs and cell phone leads go down the left side and come out btwn the fairing and the tank for access to the cell phone velcroed to the lid of the left pocket and the frs radio that I just drop into the left pocket. my PTT switch cable runs up the frame to the left grip. Power was tapped on the left side fuse panel, acc fuse. I removed the pin on the protected side of the fuse and piggy backed my + lead to it then reinserted it. I attached groud to a bolt in the general area of the left fuse panel. I have had no trouble with noise in the system. HTH.

Hey Rebel, did you run the leads under the tank? Please explain the routing. (I have never even looked under any part of any tupperware so I need the "wiring for dummies" type of help) Also clarify the PTT route... Perhaps I'm over thinking this, but CrazyKZ has told me that getting connections from back to front is very challenging. You made it sound easy! Thank you.

The only lead that went under the tank was the PTT. The music, frs, and cell phone leads did not go all the way to the front of the bike, they wont reach. SO instead I routed the cell and frs lead down the outside of the left black frame rail, they cross outside of the aluminum frame and tuck in between the middle cowl and the tank. they come back out about even with the lid to the left pocket. I have a small flip phone, applied velcro to the back of the phone and to the lid of the pocket. For the frs radio, once it is plugged in i just drop it into the left pocket. It can be reached if need to change chan or vol settings. If it starts to rain i can just drop the cell into the pocket as well for protection and still be hooked up for calls. (mostly incoming) For the radio/mp3 lead, same route just down the right side. While I have had no trouble with the cell on the velcro of the left lid, I have had the mp3 player tossed off the right lid (about 80 MPH) due to it being popped open by the wind coming thru the fork opening and catching the tab on the lid. Those MP3 players are tough, it is still in use today. I currently have it attached to the right lid with a velcro strap so that it is more secure. It only fell off because the lid was thrown open with such force.
Does that help?

That Helped! Thank you Tx. How short were your leads? I looks like mine will reach if I find a way to mount the autocom under the drivers seat. Anybody see a problem with this? There is enough space.

just talked to sherob today, he mounted his under the rider seat so that the leads would reach all the way to the front, so yes it is do-able.
