This is driving me nuts..
I think I have something wrong with my Roady 2 at the point at which the antenna plugs into the unit..

More often now the radio gives me an "Antenna" message on the screen and the music goes out. (Not to be confused with 'Signal' which is expected in certain places)

I wiggle the connection point and the music comes back.
I don't think it's the antenna itself but rather the connection housing on the radio itself.
I will contact XM as I purchased it directly from them and am considering upgrading to the MyFi (I think that is what it is called) based on a couple of Sherobs comments.

Any others had this issue?

I haven't had any problems with mine so far, but have only had it for about 4 weeks. :biker:

I had that exact problem, and my fix was easy. I just bent the outside part of the connector plug (from the antenna) out a little bit to make the connector fit more snugly into the Roady housing. That fixed it for me. If your connector in the radio itself is bad, they had been replacing them with little hassles - but that was before Delphi went bankrupt.

Hope yours responds to the simple fix.

I have had my Roady 2 for almost 2 years. I have not had a problem with a loose antenna connector, but I occasionally have problems with a loose power connector. I have it mounted to the brake resevoir, sometimes when I hit a bump, the unit resets or turns off. Otherwise, I love my Roady 2, we have a lot of hours on the road together.

Try gently bending the outer contacts on the antenna plug. I have this problem. I move my original Roady from the bike, truck, and work. Funny thing is the home kit antenna is the loosest fit and give the most problems.

Suggest you do not upgrade to the Myfi. I have both and the Roady 2 is much better for the motorcycle. The problem with the Myfi is tyhat you cannot connect your antenna directly to the Myfi; you need to use a car mount or a home mount on your motorcycle. Otherwise you will have to use the "personal" antenna which clips to your jacket or something. If you think you have problems with your current antenna, try the "personal" one!!! My Roady is working find and have put lots of miles on it. I just put it in the left glove compartment in a padded bag and leave the cover of the glove compartment open to release the heat. Works fine.

Thanks for the advice all..

I will try and go the the simple fix first..'expanding' the antenna connection point. We'll see how that works. I usually do not disconnect the antenna a lot. When I park the bike at work I disconnect the roady along with the antenna. The actual antenna is housed on the roady2 mount I have.

I'll give it a shot.

Charlie, If you do follow through with a warranty claim let me know how you are recieved by Delphi.

I use the MyFi without any problems... I have the craddle bolted to the ram mount and use the regular antenna. You are right about the plastic one... it sucks! The MyFi rocks on the bike... vol/treble/bass controls :D I had a Roady II... I prefer the MyFi ;)

OK, I'm really stupid about this XM radio thing. Can someone explain to me how it works on the motorcycle and what a person needs to purchase to make it work. I understand about the earbuds and the ear tip from plantronics but have no clue about the Roady 2, etc. Please help. Thanks.

Basically what you need is a convertor to convert 12V to 6V for the power to the Roady, and then a way to mount the Roady. There are a few different solutions for each.

If you have the 12V accessory plug in the fairing pocket then you could just use the car power adaptor that comes with the unit.

Hey Paul..
Here are the steps..
1. Buy a radio and subscribe.
Roady 2 is only 50 bucks.
I subscribed for a year, this way I would not have to pay monthly.
I bought it here:
www.xmradio.com

2. Need a way to mount on the bike
I used a radio mount and Ram ball on the Brake fluid reservior..
Got it here:
http://www.motorcyclelarry.com/ram_ball_mount.asp

3. Need a power supply if you want it to come from the bike (without having to plug in) and it needs to reduce voltage from 12 to 6 volt.
My choice:
Scroll down on this page listed for 40.00
http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/product.asp?item=ROADY

4. Need a way to output the sound
Ear buds plugged onto the Roady will work.
I use the Autocomm System and that works great for me. (of course it does a lot more) but it uses the speaker out from the radio the same way that that headphones work.

Thats it.
Not too bad.
Good Luck.

I just saw the Roady 2 at Wal Mart last night for $29.00! They have been replaced by the Roady XT and the Roady 2 is no longer made. The XT has a cradle to solve the problem with the antenna/power problems. I had the same antenna problem with my Roady 2 and went to a Skyfi 2. Yes it is more money for the cradles, but I move the unit from my work truck to office to work truck to home or personal truck/bike every day. The Roady 2 just did not hold up. I have a hook up for the ST and it works great.

You will pay the most by shopping at XM. Try XMfanstore.com or E Bay. I have picked up 3 radios on E Bay and no one else could match the price. Just make sure your read the fine print on the super low price pages. The $29.00 at Wal Mart is the lowest I have ever seen for a Roady2.

Good to know. If I change it to the cradle deal, can you use the existing power supply. (Plugs into the cradle and not the radio itself?)
So all you need to do is plug the radio into the cradle without any wires to plug into the radio itself is that the idea??

Sounds good (pun intended) I will wait to see how XM is integrated with the Garmin and may go that way instead of upgrading the radio. We'll see.
