Why in the world would you want to do that ? ... time for lube already !

The swing arm was removed for access. And inspection of the races showed marks in the races like on head bearings on a weelied too much sport bike.
The bearings are well lubed, with a grease that looks a little thin to me, but
they look ok. I guess that the bearings had been replace before, but not the races.

First, do you do have the swing arm out? It looks like it is not posible unless it is. It looks like you have to remove each race from the opposite side with a long punch( I would use) or the special Honda tools. There is a grease cap that has to be drilled through to make this posible, it is replaced with the bearings. If you had a expanding pair of fingers for a side hammer, it might be posible to pull each race out with out drilling the holes in the grease retainers but I haven't been there yet. Will let you know when I upgrade the alternator, as that would be a good time to service these bearings.
Have fun
Brian
Ps ask on the ST email list, I am sure someone has done it there.

Hi Brian,
All that you said is true, just like the manuale says. Untill you look at it.
There is littl or no "lip" between the race and the welded bead that supports it. I was actually thinking of migging (is that a word?)something to it, to help pull it out.
I'm also lookin into an alternitive bearing instead of the $30 Honda one.

Ah, then the Honda tool must fit just right to grab what ever lip is showing from the race. I some times ran into this when I was a Honda tech, (cars unfortunatly) only the honda tool seemed to work. Welding a lump on the race might be the easiest method to get a purchase to drive each one out. Sounds like you have the experience, and me not being there, I will butt out, but let me know what worked, I may be going there soon.:)
