I ordered one of Ron's Shelf's from the guy who took over.

Noticed that he bumped the price to $100 Shipped from $85. Oh Well.

Got the package , and Right away - no instructions. No problem they are on line.

Get e-mail 5 minutes later from the guy. He has left out 2 parts (bushings). He Asks me to either make my own and he sends me $7.50 or he will send them to me. I notice in the instructions that the bushings are "supposed" to be powder coated black. So I ask him to send them to me. I get 2 plain Aluminum bushings and a check for $7.50. Hmmm , well no real big deal. The bushings are hid from view pretty well.

Back to the story. After Thoroughly reading the instructions, it took about 20 minutes to install the whole thing. Hardest part was getting those pesky plastic pins back into their holes.

I still think $100 is a little stiff , but what do you do for custom parts ???

Mine came with plain aluminum color bushings too. I didn't even realize they should have been black. Like you say, can't really see them once installed. I do wish the replacement screws that go into the back of the dash to secure the "legs" of the shelf were anodized black though.

I took a Permanent Black marker and now they ARE black. Can't even tell they are there.

Hmmm, now what to do with the Shelf :)

I have had mine on for about a year now and haven't completely figured it out myself yet. So far I have the radar detector and the antennna mount for the XM up there but there is still a lot of real estate.

Here is one thought I have been toying with (but haven't worked out any of the details)- The outside corners would make great mounting points for a second set of mirrors. I want them to go horizontal from roughly the shelf level, not "up and out". This would keep them out of the way of the moving windshield and still keep them high enough to see over the hands and around the arms. Anyone out there have any suggestions on the mirrors mounting hardware?

That's a good idea. I wouldn't mind doing that also but I've run stuff out too close to the edges of my shelf to do that. Maybe it's time for a re-design. ;)

I've toyed with this idea myself. I was looking at the various QuickScan blind spot mirrors available from Saeng. http://www.saeng.com/scanners.htm . Seems line one of these configurations would work, particularly the "Auto" ones. http://www.saeng.com/2611.htm
