Anyone know where I can purchase on line an oil filter cap wrench? The ST and GL1800 use the same identical filter. I found out yesterday that the oil cap wrench is required for the ST.
Fortuneately a friend loaned me his and I completed my oil change. I need to purchase one now.

Dave - The Honda part no. is: 07HAA-PJ70101
I just acquired the liddle sucker from David Silver Spares - here's (http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/) the link. The cost was around GBP £14 (approx USD $24) including carriage.
Works great. I changed the oil and filter myself, for the first time yesterday afternoon. It was a doddle with the 07HAA-PJ70101 cap wrench.

My local STealer has a wrench from Big Bike Parts that cost me only $6 or $8 bucks, and works fine.

AutoZone... take your filter with you. $3-$4.
.
The one from Autozone, although cheaper fits a little loose on the Honda filter.
I have used it a couple of times and it hasn't slipped on the filter yet.
Make sure you get the metal one, not the plastic.

Take a thin strip of sandpaper and put it up in the flutes of the
cap wrench... Works great.. Takes up the extra space and really
grips the end of the filter..

I tried once, once, to use the oilfilter cup wrench (if I remember right it was the first oil change I was performing, with the filter torqued to 2000 ft/lbs from the factory.) I ended up :mad1: as hell, and:banghead: and had to go back in the house to take some :rx1:and :beer8:before I returned and tried some other :tools1: but again got :mad1: so my wife came into the workshop and tried to :coolit: . By that time, I had already made my mind up. :smrtcar1: down to autozone and bought a wrench that would get the SOB out without further waste of time. It is a tight fit around the filter, but if you put it on right, it works wonders.

I have to look in the service manual or get the wrench I have at home to see the exact part number but here's a listing of vector wrenches if we can figure out which one we need. I have the part number at home so maybe I can find it tonight.

I got mine at NAPA, just take a filter with you because they carry a lot of filter sizes. It was $6.99.

K&N filter ($8.00) 17MM socket, same as the drain plug!
Even though I had the right size oil filter cup wrench (took the oil filter to the auto store and got a tight fit) the oil filter wouldn't budge.
The next door neighbor had a really big channel lock plier, it did the trick.
So I now use a *really big* plier to remove oil filters... bought it at Ace hardware.

I bought one at an Auto Zone, under $6.,00... BUT... they had 7 of them on the rack. I had taken a filter with me 'cause the one I already had "slipped" and did not grip the filter tightly although it was supposedly the "correct" part number..... Of the 7 on the rack at AZ, only ONE of the seven would grip the filter I'd taken with me... Production standards are SLOPPY evidently... take a filter w/you, make sure what you buy fits.

Wow, how tight do you put them on?
To date, I've been struggling with that oil filter every time I change it. I found out that the only time it's a real struggle is when the dealer mechanic puts the filter on...at about 100lbs. of torque
Either way, it's good to find this thread, and an end to my woes. Great advice!
