I am considering switching to a Sargeant seat and was wondering if there are any suggestions you may have before I order one. Also, which is a better material, carbon FX or
Griptex? Are you happy with your seat? Finally, does one have to send the seat in to Sargeant to be manufactured?

I cannot answer for the ST, but I had 60K on a sargent on my last bike. I had the Carbon FX, great seat. You do not have to send your seat to them unless you want a custom build. They make their own pans and usually have a storage space for small items built in the underside of the pan. Hope this helps.

Sargent uses their own pans and they add storage to under both seats.

The Grip-Tex I've heard is hard to keep clean and get clean. I order the CarbonFX.

I had to add a sheepskin to mine because the surface of the seat would start to wear on me after a few hundred miles. The foam is fine and lasts for 1000 mile days with no problem getting back on the next day but that's after I added the sheepskin pad to get past the CarbonFX surface.

I bought my Sargent on ebay a few weeks ago for $460 + about $11 for shipping. This was a little less than the stated price, as he had a carbon fiber FX with silver welt that somebody had ordered then canceled before it was shipped. At any rate, you can find several dealers on ebay that will sell them under $500. The issue is whether they have them in inventory, or if they order them to be built for you, which takes a lot longer. I wouldn't advise buying from Sargent directly because, as the manufacturer, Sargent will have to charge you the full listed price. Their dealers have to compete for your business by offering better than list price and fast delivery.

So far, with only a few hundred miles on ours, we love it. My wife even says that it's the most comfortable she's been. Good luck.

I'm happy with my Sargent, fit and finish were great! I added a "Pro Pad" to the back for a little added comfort for the wife.

I wonder if the 30 day money money back guarantee applies to purchases made from one other than directly from Sargent!?

I saw the seat being offered by "partsmonster" at Ebay . Anyone has had a positive experience w/ this seller. How can he get them so cheap?

My Sargeant seat was the single best upgrade I've done. Compared to stock it is vastly better. It retains the adjustability, plus adds storage under the seat.

I selected Grip-Tex. It's cool in the summer. However the very textured surface can be slippery when using certain textile riding gear. Jeans aren't bad, but my Joe Rocket mesh pants were initially very slippery on Grip-Tex.

After a while it got scuffed in, or else I got used to it. Also for winter I've switched to FirstGear HT overpants, which seem less slippery on the seat.

You can also spray some tackifier on the seat, which I tried on the pillion seat. It worked pretty well: http://www.powrwrap.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=TPWPP&Product_Code=TS-POWR&Category_Code=PTST

However in general I'd probably recommend the Carbon-FX material. It looks easier to clean and might be less slippery with textile gear.

Ok...Thanks. I've decided to purchase a Sargeant seat carbon FX w/ silver molding. However, the price difference seems to vary quite a bit. The guy on ebay seems to have the lowest price but a couple members here had problems w/ shipping. Any links or references welcomed and thanks again!

I ordered my Sergent from Parts Monster about a month ago and had no issues with shipping. I got my seat 5 days after winning the auction. No problems and it is the best upgrade I have done to the ST. I wanted to do a Russell, but I since I live on the East Coast, I was afraid if there was something wrong with it, it may take some time to ship it back, get them to work on it and then get it back. I wasn't willing to give up any riding time, and with everyone saying that the Sergent was a great seat, I just got one.
Everyone was right, it is a great seat. My first Iron Butt is coming up, so I will give more feedback on the Sergent once I complete it.
I think you will love the Sergent.
