In the process of purchasing a seat to replace the stock on my St13. Read a lot of posts regarding the Sargent seat. How is it in comparison to the Russell? Pluses, minuses, etc...Which is more comfortable for long rides?

Have you considered a Corbin? I just happen to have one for sale!:D It's a black, heated, Dual Canyon model. It's a great seat and in near new condition. Asking $475 plus shipping, (new is $650). See pic below and more at http://www.corbin.com/honda/st1300.shtml. PM me if interested.

Does the seat have a slot to use a corbin backrest for the rider? I contacted corbin about buying a heated solo but they told me it could not be adapted to use their backrest for the rider. Anyway, was just wondering if that style of seat could.

Nice seat. I had a Corbin before on my GL-1500. I thought I'll try something different. Is your Corbin a standard or close?

Louie,
The Corbin was on the '04 ST when I bought it and yes, it is a nice seat...selling because of personal preference...for some reason my posterior and Corbin saddles have never been compatible...had one years ago on a BMW GS 1000 and it just never fit me properly. I guess one could say "beauty is in the eye of the BUTTHOLDER!" (sorry!)

Kevin,
YES, this is a Dual Canyon model and does have the slot for a Corbin backrest.

I'll post this again - it didn't get any interest before. Maybe there's someone interested now that it's colder.
I have a Corbin Close heated seat for sale. It has the slot for the backrest - no backrest, though. It is black with silver trim. Pix available.
Nice clean seat in great condition for $350 plus actual shipping.

See a lot of responses. None has anything to do with the original question. Sargent or Russell?

I did some research and it appears people either love or hate their Russel. Most people love the Sargeant. I myself had the same dilemma as you and I ordered my Sargeant today!:)

Thanks Louie, I don't know. The jury is still out. Read a lot of positive responses on Russell. It looks like it would have more cushioning to it then the Sargent and I think Russelle is more customized. Hard decision to make. After all, the seat is probably one of the most important and expensive upgrades. Would greatly appreciate responses from someone who actually had experiences with both Russell and Sargent.

Thanks Charlie. I’ll try my best to provide all necessary information to Russell in order to build a perfect seat as possible. The most important for me is the long rides (300-500 miles). I’ll let you guy know after I get it and put some miles on it.

Shucks...I hope I dont get buyers remorse. I thought the Sargeant would be an improvement over my R. Mayer. I guess I'll have to wait and see now.
I have been riding on a Corbin since my ST was new, I like it for local and short rides but for long trips it just does not cut it, after about 400 miles it gets pretty uncomfortable.
When I ordered the Corbin they were not willing to offer the D-stich pattern and did not get the seat right to prevent the sliding forward issues, it took them two tries to get the seat to me and I finally just accepted the seat and rode it.
I ordered a Russell with the heated element, hoping it will give me those 800 mile days in comfort. I'll know in a couple of weeks.
I have a Corbin on my XX and have no issues with it so I think it's just the ST build that is the problem, probably sitting position more than anything.

Mike,
Definitely let me know if the Russell worked for you. I’m 5’11 – 6’00 tall, 215 lbs w/36-38 waist and 30-31 inseam. Just for comparison. Did you order any custom options/modifications?
Russell absolutely guarantees that you will be satisfied with the seat. What more can you ask. I bought one and the cover was not perfect, sent it back and they fixed it. There was a slight adjustment that was needed and they also made it, I talked to the builder and he knew exactly what I was talking about.

I've had a Russell for a couple of years now and really like it. Had a Corbin on my ST 1100 and it wasn't nearly as good. Put on a 650 mile day last summer and was ready to ride again the next morning. No tired butt, nothing. Whichever way you go, if you ride in cool weather, spring for a seat warmer. Not that much of a price increase if you do it initially. I think the total with Russell was less than a C note.
John
I have been going thru the process of seat selection for a few monnths now.
Today I ordered a Sargent. My reasoning was that I wanted the most level seat with the largest "flat" area so I can move around. To me it looked like the Sargent..I hope I did the right thing. In abt. 2 weeks I 'll give you my opinion.

Thanks for all the info, I still have a question. I am 6.3" and 190 lb. I always ride with the passenger. What kind of seat will work for me? I am between Sargent and Russel Day long. Any advise will be helpful. Thank you.

My wife has ridden as passenger on stock, Corbin and Russell, and only likes the Russell. For me Russell was much better than Corbin and Corbin was better than stock. I like long rides, and I really start to appreciate the difference after the first hour or two of the day. Russell may look like hell to the eye but its custom made for your and your wife's butt, so you would expect that the fit should be better than some of the alternatives...
Can't speak for the Sargent, but have heard good things about them too.
good luck!

I just got my Russell yesterday and it gets a big thumbs up from both me and my passenger. I got heated front and rear - and these things get HOT
I actually think it looks good too!

I have a Russell for my ST1100. Bottom line....not the sportiest seat on the market, but by far, the MOST comfortable you will ever sit on. I rode 4 1/2 hours straight, not even stopping for the restroom on my Russell. I could have stayed on that seat all day long. (Hence, Russell "Day Long")
