Handly place for a power socket. BMW type. I intend to use this socket with my GPS which is mounted on a CycleGadgets gadget RAM mount (clutch reservoir clamp). I have been using my Garmin 276C with its excellent LiIon battery but I was installing other electrics and wondered if I could get a socket in between the handlebars.

You can install it there but the spade connectors extend down into the steering stem shaft. If the socket hole is slightly off center this is easier. Highly unlikely you will be centered and only a few mm helps. I just drilled in the center of the Honda emblem in the plastic cap and that is basically centered over the shaft of the steering stem.

The socked I used was from powerletproducts.com. My socket came with a rubber spacer. The web site says this is an option. Maybe it is now standard. Ther spacer helps minimize the cleance necessary for the socket. You still extend into the shaft but it is probably less figity.

Ok that is just COOL and I'm pissed that I didn't think of it first. ;) Now do one with the MCL riser plate. ;)

Very cool.

Excellent! I've wondered if the MCL cover can be adapted to take a power socket and thought if not, maybe it could be milled to do so.

There are two types of risers out there. The socket thing works with one of them (the Genmar style). The Helibar style riser is the issue. The GenMar style riser actually eliminates any clearance issues for the spade connectors.

I'm thinking that the MCL is like the GenMar... I might have to check into that... thanks ;)

MCL = Motorcycle Larry? He cloned both the GenMar and Helibar style risers. His "riser blocks" are GenMar style. His "riser plate" is Helibar style.
