Quote - The report also found that only 42 percent of dealers are selling motorcycles at or above manufacturer’s suggested retail prices, further evidence that a production cut was necessary.

“Management appears determined to restore the scarcity value of the brand,” the report said.

So "that dealers, by a 4-to-1 margin, supported Harley-Davidson’s recent decision to eliminate the Buell brand and sell MV Augusta"..

So the dealers saw Buell and Augusta cutting into sales? Or figured they were supporitn gthem too much? We'll see in 10 years or so.

Yup.......It's that or lower their prices........and I think we know which one will win out.
 I think you're right. Lowering prices would have been the best decision they could have made.:think1: But the scarcity thing.....check the classifieds - they've got a long way to go.

What they are not taking into account are the clones from the Nippon brands. yamakawazuki all have good v-twins in pretty much all the popular configurations. None of them had a good one during the last big down turn.

I've talked to several ex-Harley riders on Nippon bikes, many said they wished they had traded off long before.

Not bashing, but if Harley thinks they're gonna get a turn around by reducing inventory, they're gonna lose customers.

I thought 90% of Harleys ever made are still on the road (I know, the other 10% made it home). How is that supposed to help in scarcity? Do they need to make them where they will break down more often? :nuts1:
