They are, but don't do it. I tried it once and you could barely notice that the brake light was lit. You see, incandescent bulbs throw light in all directions and then the housing reflects all that light out to the lens, illumination the whole lens. When you put an LED bulb in there it throws all of it's light straight out. So the only visible brake light was this little circle (2 of them) on the lens. I opted to do the Hyperlights Type thing and add LED's as an addition to the standard brake lights. What an improvement.

Ok,,, this reminded me of a conversation with "MR",,, Electrical Connection Lewis Preston at Honda Hoot...

He told me of a "Patented" idea on the LED's that were still in the getting tested stage back before Honda Hoot... The lights they had were a "360" degree light... As in,,, LED's pointing,,, EVERYWHERE... Up/Down/Left/Right/Off Camber,,, you name it...

After reading this I went and found his card and called him up and he has them,,, but they are not up on the WEB site yet... I told him of our little group and he said he would send me out a set to try out and see if they are what we are looking for...

Price??? $22 each...

So,,, are we really just looking at the Brake/Tail light as the light that needs upgraded the most???

He said that the Turn signal light "MIGHT" flash faster as it draws less current than the other bulb,,, or,,, I think that was what he was explaining it to me as...

Judging by the diagram...

http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/200_0418/rear_combination_light/rear_combination_light.cfm ,

the ST1300 uses the 7443 bulb, dual filament.

They are called "wedge" bulbs.

Here is the HONDA part...

Part Number: 34906-MBB-611
Description: BULB (12V21/5W)
Source: HONDA
Price: $2.31

The Honda number for all the bulbs in the tail 9Turn and tail/brake Combo is 34906-MBB-611 (6 each) 2 turn, 2 brake, 2 tail. I havent found the "standard" equivalent number yet, but Im still lookin!
Its a "(12V 21/5W ECE)" bulb , whatever that is LOL

Edit: after further review, I think Peter is right. The Fiche list 2 turn signals, then shows them again in the "rear combo light" section. This would mean a total of 4 bulbs.

Thanks Guys!!!

So,,, this means the Brake/Tail lights are Dual fillament,,, 2 of them total... Then,,, there are 2 Turn signals,,, making a total of 4 bulbs,,, in the rear light assembly,,, Correct???

If they do blink fast, a dual load equalizer will fix it:

I've never seen these before.. there are some that point outwards... but, for $50 each for 1157 replacements... they'd have to be an incredible difference to justify the cost.

Hey Kevin,

Check out www.superbrightleds.com. I have used their replacements for the front accent lights and also the front turn signal indicators. These are great because you can't see the amber color (like with bulbs) behind my clear turn signal lenses (www.clearalternatives.com)

One thing to remember, that I heard from a Signal Dynamics guy ( http://signaldynamics.com/ ), you buy red LED's for a red lens !

Otherwise you loose the "performance" if you use a white LED's.....

This is one of the specialist rear LED's with 360 deg lighting, but not available in the ST wedge fitment.

Well,,, I got the LED's and at first glance they look like winners!!!

Testing will have to wait a day or 2 since I am leaving in 30 minutes to take my sister to the airport in Indy... Hey,,, I would do you guys almost anything but,,, sisters over rule...

Also,,, it is frigg'n 9 degrees this morning when I woke up... :p:

I will shoot for tomorrow or the next day on getting some Comparable Pictures and a observation on the brightness and 360 field of view light shining ablility of these LED's...

What color are the LED's? All red? All white or a mix? Rule of thumb is to have the LED color same as the lens on the light ie: red LED's for red brake light. Since the running light feature of the OEM bulbs also light the license plate, we need some white lighting for that.

The Ledtronics lights have a combination of red and white LED's to meet this requirement but so far they had not come out in this base. They were much, much brighter than the Autozone etc. LED lights you could buy.

Ok,,, OK!!!

Yes,,, YES I KNOW,,, I said it might be a day or 2,,, about 10 days ago... :o:

But,,, GOOD NEWS!!!

I FINALLY got the LED's installed last night!!!

To answer some questions already asked...

The LED's LOOKED,,, like they were going to be clear but when powered they are red...

They,,, are BRIGHT TOO!!! I will take some pictures today and post them...

But just from my "Birds Eye View" they are brighter than the normal bulbs... They are bright from any angle too... I am going to keep these!!!

Pictures later today!!! PROMISE!!!

Ok... So,,, taking pictures,,, of lights doesn't really show as much difference as there really is...

But,,, I am here to show,,, What I Know!!!:D

Picture # 1 ~~~ Is Mitch holding the lights up... For this demo the LED's will be in the Left socket,,, plain bulbs in the right...

Pic # 2 ~~~ Shows the LED are brighter,,, and in real life,,, they are... And,,, full side to side brighter too...

Pic # 3 ~~~ More looks...

Pic # 4 ~~~ Side view of LED's...

Pic # 5 ~~~ Side view of plain bulb...

Conclusion???

I would buy the LED's...

Answers!!!

How much??? I was told,,, $22 each...

Installing them??? Sure,,, I can do that for you... Ride it to my shop,,, buy me a Moonburger,,, and I will buy you your beverage of your choice,,, AND,,, a Klondike Bar too!!! Sort of,,, a "Give & Take" as it would be...
;)

They seem to be very well made,,, come from one of the best companies out there anywhere to deal with "Electrical Connection" so this is not some "Fly by Night" out of the trunk deals... ;)

They also "Hold the Patent" on this idea... At least,,, that is what "Mr Electrical Connection" said to me at Honda Hoot this year...

On warranty's??? I have no clue... I can ask "Mr Electrical Connection" but I expect these to last a long while...

You are looking at the running lights... When I put on the Brake lights by my eye,,, I could see the LED's were brighter,,, but on the picture,,, it was hard to see if not impossible... I MIGHT,,, be able to get the bike outside tonight and take some shots from far away and maybe that will show it off better...

As added info...

The first shot was without,,, "The Flash" of the camera... This was done by a highly intelligent way of,,, well,,, holding 2 fingers over the flash thingy on the camera...

The 2nd shot is with the Flash Thingy of the camera... Both I think it is easy to see the LED's are brighter in the Left,,, than in the Right with the standard bulb...

As an added benefit,,, you are able to see my "Sturgis 2005" sticker above the light... No charge for this added feature...

Looking back for more LED' pic's I happen to have lost somewhere I see I did not answer your question ccryder!!! Sorry!!!

The "Light" from the bulbs light it just the same as always... There is a little clear window where the light from the tail lights shines through to light the Licence plate... The LED's I have have LED's,,, pointing straight back,,, and then all around in a circle... Truly a "Circle Of Light" as it where... No blind spots!!!

Terry:

Thanks for the answer to what is lighting the license plate. One more question: These LED's light the license plate with red or white light? If it is red, some LEO's might take exception to that color. YRMV.

Thanks

Another thing to keep in mind about the LEDs is that they can't handle very high temps. I replaced the front marker lights on my ST with white LEDs from Superbright. They worked fine until the first summer. Over time the LEDs started to fail one LED at a time. I conntacted Superbright and they said they'd send me some replacement, "next generation" bulbs. However, after seeing a picture of my application they changed their minds and required that I pay for the replcements. Because the LEDs are contianed in the same housing as the H4 headlights, they claimed it was the heat from these bulbs that cooked them. This <may> be the case, or it could be that the summer sun caused the problem. You <may> experience similar issues using them in various applications that expose them to <excesive> heat.

You can see my installation here:

ADAMK - Thanks for clearing up the issue with the side lights. I also bought a set and while they did look good, the shourt life of the bulbs kept me from spending the money again. I now have the HID low beams and HID Aux-lights for high beam. Both lights at the same time.....I have to make sure no one is coming towards me or they are "blinded by the light"...I think there's a song in that........

Adam,

What's the beST way to get at the marker lights? Do you have to remove any tupperware? Or just reach down by the forks?

Yeah, the superbrights I put on the first time started failing within a month if I remember correctly... I got some of a different brand from autozone and they lasted longer... I think I posted something about it here, I'll see if I can find it. May not matter if the heat is what did it, I hadn't really thought about that.

You can do it without removing anything, just by turning the bars left/right and doing it from the dash forward... BUT, you will come out of it w/bleeding knuckles and make sure kids aren't around, they shouldn't be exposed to that type of language.
