Hello ... the time has come to do the 52,000 km valves, and later carb synch.

After removing the plastic, I proceeded to to take the valve cover off. Not too bad but the rubber gasket was stuck so careful prying was necessary.

When I finally got to the valves, I did piston #1 - results: INTAKE about 0.15mm, EXHAUST about 0.25mm .... within spec !!!

Will do the rest today .... carb sync later in the week.

If anyone has pics or tips, please post them .... thanks !

Q: what about the sealer in the 'C' slots ? ... thank in avdance :)

Attached is an accumulation of carb sync-ing procedures I've amassed over the years. With the clarity of hindsight, chuck all of it and get a flow-meter.;)

Check on the ST List and My-Mc.com for valve check~adjustment procedures. Checking the clearances is pretty straight forward, and changing the shims isn't that big of a deal, just a PITA...There's a DVD available that a couple of STOC'ers made (Robert Smith and Fred Applegate) showing how to check the valve clearances. Someone on ST-Owners.com probably has a copy, if not ping the ST List.

For resealing the valve cover gaskets, Courtney Sullivan (and I) recommends a small bead of Permatex's Hylomar HPF Gasket Dressing and Flange Sealant (http://tinyurl.com/cnh0) smeared between the ridges of the valve cover gasket.

Thanks for the links !~

Now that I've seen the insides, yes removing the cams is not that big a deal ... it just sounds awful when you first read it :)

I also have the Clymer manual .... :biker:

Thanks, Curt ... I did look at the ST1300 thread and gleaned something from it .... but ST1100's are even more special ..... :D

Did the remaining valves, and they are ....

All intake valves are between 0.13mm and 0.16mm ...
All exhaust valves are between 0.24mm and 0.26mm ...

I'm going to leave as is, do a final inspection on the cam-holder bolts, then button it all back up and perform a careful carb synch .... then wait for spring :)

OK, the final carb synch is done ...

Findings - one bank was out of whack with the other bank, tweaked the screws just a bit and wow, now they're all at 28 cm (Hg ?) ... revved it up and they stayed pretty close ... perfect at idle.

Will leave as is and road test in a few weeks ... :)
