OK,

It was bright sunshine and 70+ today so I decided to finish the install on my new Pro 7.

Sorry Rob but I went ahead and used the tool holder in the tailcone for reasons that have been stated before. The finished product is VERY good, great audio quality and sound, love how it stays quiet even with both headsets plugged in.

I am using the PTT on the left bar and I got that installed first. Works well but it is right next to the horn so I my be signalling my transmissions in more than one fashion. Ran the lead under the plastic on the left and made the hookup at the unit. used the radio extension lead to go back to the front left pocket and ran the motorola radio lead into the pocket from the bottom drain hole.

I am going to keep my MP3 and cell in my tankbag so I ran the music and cell phone leads up to the tanl and protected them with some wire loom. Power for the Pro is from the bike so I made those hookups.

Rider cord in at my left side and pasenger at left grab rail, coiled cords for both.

No noise so far and sounds good. Set the Vox to the 75mph position in the literature and it seems close, may have to bump it up a little bit more. Music volume is good, cell phone is set to max loud and is ok. I have the high low shorting plug in since I am a little deaf and also wear earplugs a lot of the time.

The only problem is the FRS volume. If I just crack the volume Knob enough to turn the radio on, I have way too much volume! This is a pretty generic Motorola FRS, had it for years. I will try one of Al's newer radios this week to see if it makes a difference but I have never had a too much volume problem before, anybody else have this problem?

I did a counterbalancer synch while I had it open and boy was it time!

More to follow but I really like this unit so far. Head and shoulders above my old motocomm.

I've noticed that on the music input with the MP3 player in my GPS. The output level is actually enough to drive headphones, where the Autocom appears to want line level.

I haven't done PTT with it yet, but I have a hard time believing the bike-to-bike input wasn't designed to work with a speaker-level signal since you'd be plugging straight into a headhone jack. A 20 dB attenuator in line will help that; you might also want to check with Autocom and see if they have a canned part that does it. If not, here's a simple circuit you can put in line with the speaker output to cut it back: http://www.tkk.fi/Misc/Electronics/circuits/speaker_to_line.html
