View Full Version : Installing highway foot pegs?

Hi Folks,

Any safe aftermarket products or techniques to add highway foot pegs on the ST1300? I thought perhaps by removing the black plastic cover over the side engine guards, one could clamp on the one inch metal rail some type of retractable foot pegs.

Any suggestions?

IMO, it's the best option available.

Now that Maggie has had a chance to use them on a few rides, she tells me she really likes them. Mike does a nice job with the fabrication and the installation is straight forward.

Hey John,

How tall are you? One thing I've wanted to know is how much the fairing deflectors would hit you leg when trying to use them. I've been looking at them but I've been holding off because of that issue. If you can add some insight there I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Curt

I bought the Steed Sticks.

Installation is fairly straight forward and I like the angle and distance for my 32" inseam. Riders with a shorter inseam and the fairing extensions may experience some discomfort with extended use on either type of highway peg available for the ST.

Red's idea of clamp-on aftermarket pegs may be the way to go for inseam challenged individuals.

I like the Kurayakin products for their heavy construction and good finish.

Curt - good question as the fairing deflectors definitely come into play. I'm 5'10" with a 30" inseam. Maggie has a Russell seat on her ride and has about the same inseam, maybe an inch longer. When she gets back from work tonight, I'll shoot some pix. of her on the bike with her feet on the pegs. What I remember from the time I used them was that you rode slightly bow legged, but not uncomfortably so.

More to follow. . .

OK. So here are some pix. right after today's ride. Sorry a couple of them are a little blury. Maggie tells me she tends to ride with her heels toward the point of the pegs, rather than flush on them. While her legs rest on the fairing deflectors, they don't dig into her leg in any way.

Thanks John,

Thanks for the pictures. I guess that's what I figured but I didn't know if it would be an issue or not. I'm not convinced I want them yet but it's nice to know they will probably work if I get them.

Thanks,
Curt

Hi John,

I was talking with a friend about the hiway pegs and how comfortable they looked. He mentioned that they would probably only work well if you had a backrest. What's your take on that?

I just ordered a Russell Day Long with a backrest so it's a moot point for me but I was just curious.

Thanks,

Hi - I will respond for John. The pegs are on my bike and no backrest is needed. The hiway pegs work great without a backrest. It sure is nice to change the position of your legs on long rides. Maggie :biker:

The beauty of the STeed STicks is the extra several inches of leg room.

Curt - glad the photos helped. I'd put this farkle in the "nice to have", but not in the must have category. I've put some long hours on my 1300 and it's so darned comfortable I rarely have problems with my legs. Would be nice to stretch them out while riding, and as I noted in my original post, Mike has done a very good job with the fabrication. Push comes to shove, I can always steal them back from Maggie!!! :03biker:

Where did you get that tank bra?

Tank bra from Fredricks of Holly... na, it's from Second Look. I heard it's no longer being made? The bra is about 2 1/2 y/o and is wearing very well, no sun lightening that I can detect.

Charlie, you ever seen a guy with nice legs..uh oh I shouldn't ask
