I received an XM Roady XT for Christmas, and now I need to think about installing it. I have looked at Cycle Gadgets, and the Ram mounts, I would love to here pros and cons, please include element intrusion.......and possible protection.
My plan,
Cycle gadgets, mini antenne with 4 ft long cord, power cord and then the roady mount? or Ram mount setup, and the case (Does anyone have this case? Is it waterproof/resistant?)
This would then be hooked up to my HJC chatterbox radio.
IS there something I should look at instead of this setup?
All comments welcome........
Thanks:03biker: :bow1:

Do a search for Roady XT as I've only seen a few posts on it so far. Not many have it yet but I know there have been some posts on it.

Curt, thanks I have done the search, and tried to sift through all the info, but not much info on the roady xt specifically. So I am still looking for input.......Thanks again.

Is the chatterbox strictly on the helmet with no wires to the bike for anything?
The rammount boxes are water resistant enough for something like that. I plan to use one for the Roady2. Not sure if it will work for the XT though because of the cradle.
Is there a spot on the XT cradle for a rammount? Do you have any pictures to share?

Here's a post I found that you may want to keep your eye on or do a search on their forum:

I don't have mine mounted yet but I have all the goodies.
1st: Ram mount diamond ball mount bolts up to the ROady supplied sticky mount.
2nd: medium arm to a MCL aluminum neck cover with a Ram ball.
3rd: I'm going to modify the lighter plug in to hard wire, since the Roady does not use 12volts.
4th: The antenna I'll mount on my Ron Smith dash and store the extra wire uner it.
5th:I'll run the line out into my Starcom intercom.
BTW I purchased the car kit and will mount the remote on my tank bag.

For all those who got the XM radio over the holidays, make sure you activate it by December 31 because XM is offering free activation until then.

Not only did I get the raody for the holiday, I also got a year of service which was activated for free, and for only shipping an additionl roady xy is in the mail......I may just use the additional mounting to put it in the car.........or my wifes bike....
3.99 for shipping.....
Here are some pictures of my installation. I had a Roady 2 and mounted the XT in the same location and used the same antenna. Power is from the BMW style outlet and adapter cable using the power supply that came with the kit.

Dubt, Did i see it mounted using the stick on mount that was included with the RoadyXT? How has that held up to motorcycle use...bumps and such? Also do you protect the roadt from the elements?
I could just power the roady as you have from my tank bag. Heck I could even put the roady in the tank bag.....and just mount the antenna on the resevoir......
I did use the stick on mount that came with the unit, cleaned it and then applied a little heat to it and let it sit for 24 hours. It has not been a problem. The only problem I had was with keeping the roady on the mount, used some RTV to glue it on. This mount will only be used on the ST. If it would pop off the wires will keep it from going anywhere. The antennae wire is hidden up under the front cowl.

I love XM. However, I wont put in on the bike because I listen to CH 150 (Comedy) and it literally makes me laugh so hard sometimes I'm afraid I'll fall of the bike!

On second thought I'm liking the idea of an XM on the bike....I'm gonna search some threads and probably annoy everyone again by asking questions! Or perhaps carry it on my pocket like the shuffle w. out too much modification on the bike. As to XM is 150 the funniest to me, is the guy making phone calls and using the weird voices and characters and making people irrationaly irate and out of control w/ anger.

I recieved the roady holder from hoon hardware. The mount for the XT uses two hole and you mount diagonally on the mount. It looks ok. I have not installed on the bike yet. I am worried about the XT bumping off the mount it does seem to be easily jarred off the mount.
I read the RTV trick to keep it mounted. Does anyone do any thing different?
I ordered the 4 ft antenna from XMFANSTORE.COM, and it looks great. Now all I need is some warm weather to ride in, and oh yeah no snow.....
Thanks

As an FYI, when you mount the Roady using the supplied 'c-clip' bracket, it won't be going anywhere. I am trying to figure out a way to mount it securely, yet still make it portable enough to where I can pop it off to take it in my car. I'm using the Cycle Solutions Roady Holder, which screws into the c-clip bracket, and it's a bear to get it off the bracket without fear of snapping something (I don't need the bracket in the car). Any suggestions?

The so-called (by XM) c-clip is the plastic bracket that snaps onto the back of the Roady...holds it very securely.
I mounted one of the original Roady's on the dash shelf and then the antenna on top off the dash, works very well.
Weather channel can be a life saver...like avoiding the hail in Amarillo last year. I can do rain all day but, hail.....i'll pass!
I found a photo of my mount:

Here is a shot of the back and front of the Ram mount setup I use. I found everything at Cycle Gadgets. I found the antenna at xmfanstore.com. and has 4-foot long wire. The antenna is mounted on the top plate. The whole thing comes off as one unit. I just unplug the power wire and it is off in 10 sec. If I am going in somewhere quick, I will just pull the radio out of the cradle. If I leave the bike for a long time, I will pull the whole thing off.
This setup should work for the XT as well as it uses a cradle like the Skyfi 2 that I use. I have been using this for six months now and have hit some good bumps, not problem with the radio staying in the cradle. Not sure about the XT cradle, but the Skyfi cradle has a lock on the back to keep the radio in place.

Mike, in the photo showing the bracket without the unit attached, what is the 'putty' looking stuff for? And is that the bracket that comes with your XM unit?
Yeah that is the mount that came with the Roady, I driiled a couple holes through it so I could mount it on the dash shelf. The blue stuff is akin to silly putty. I found it at Lowes hardware store in the adhesive department.
I found that on rough roads the Roady would disengage itself from the mount, since I put the silly putty stuff on the bracket it has never fallen off again and it is easily removed...the stuff stays soft.

My problem has been the opposite...the mount is so tight that I can't get the Roady off of it when I want to!

I ordered and installed the Roady holder from HOON Hardware, it appears to be the same as the one sold most every where now. I had to drill two holes. The mount for the XT could be mounted diagonally on the holder, but I was afraid the XT would be to high and interfere with the antenna. I ordered the 4' antenna from XMFANSTORE.com, (least expensive online right now).
All i need is a 5 volt power source to hard wire into the Bike. I use the cig lighter adapter with a powerlet coupler. There is too much snow to test it out. I will try to get pictures soon.
I have an issue still with keeping the XT on the bike, I will try to create my own bungee net for it. Any Ideas???

What do you mean by installing the XT "diagonally". do you have any photos of your installation? 2wheelinnovations.com now has the 5V hard wire power supplies available for the newer XM radios. Wonder why Delphi didn't just run them on 12v?

I just emailed 2wheelinnovations.com for information, and got a reply in about 10 minutes. I ordered the power supply and a couple other goodies ;) .
I have yet to take photos of my install. I will post them shortly after taking them.
