Just got started farkling a new compact STebel airhorn. I searched the forum's for all the great pics and advice. The problem is, I can't find anyone who has installed one on an ABS model (1997). The wonderful space in the upper forward right fairing is full of the ABS valving system, no room. The stock horn is mouinted on the left side, so the wires to the relay will be on the wrong side even if I could find space on the right (no real biggie, just buy a wire stretcher). Someone mounted it under the right lower fairing behind the tip-over bar, but that's where my coolant reservoir is on the ABS, no room again. I don't regret the ABS, it's saved me a few times, but HAS ANYONE WITH ABS FOUND A GOOD MOUNTING SPOT BEFORE I REMOVE EVERY PIECE OF TUPPERWARE?????banghead: Thanks for the help, I'll be sitting on the garage floor with a beer staring at the bike .

On my '01 ABS I mounted it on the left side, just behind the tip over wing (under the plastic). Two l-o-o-n-g wire ties seem to hold it securely. I attached the relay to the stock horn mounting location, just above the stock horn.
I'd suggest leaving the stock horn in place. There's a lag between hitting the horn button and getting sound out of an air horn because of the time it takes to pressurize the horns. The lag is minimal on the Stebel, but it's there. The stock horn fills in that slight lag, and adds a little to overall loudness.

I don't have any lag in my Stebel airhorn. Push button and its blasts! LOUD!:)

Thanks Bob for the location help on the ABS. First, I found out Mrs. Claus had bought me the standard Stebel, not the compact one for Christmas. I waited to get the compact. I still couldn't get it where I wanted it in the forward fairing someplace. I even trimmed the horns a little to get it where all the non-ABS guys put it in the right forward area. I did get it in there, but the right fork tapped it slightly all the way over to the stop, and I was worried it might loosen up an cause a binding problem. So, I took your advice and squeezed it in behind the left tip over wing bars. It was still tight but it fit. Wiring was easier on the left side too. It's not as ideal as up front, but it sure does wake up my left shin, and beats the heck out of the stock peeper. Got all the tupperware back on at midnight last night and back on the road today. Thanks again for the help!!

My Pleasure Tool Man:
I agree with you, up front would be better, but like you I couldn't figure out any way to really make it fit.
Jeff:
Have you had both the Stebel and an electric horn wired simultaneously? If you do, I think you'll notice a brief period where you can hear only the electric. It's short, but it's there. The Stebel doesn't take long to pressure up because the horns are mounted right to the diaphragms. On regular air horns, where the compressor's mounted to the horn/diaphram with a plastic hose the delay can be substantial.
