I just rec'd my refurbished 2610 but I'm unable to load the software (City Nav NA ver7). My PC doesn't seem to see the disk. Other CDs run fine in my PC. Also, the Garmin setup instructions refer to 2 disks. I only rec'd 1 CD.

The unit & everything with it looks brand new.

I'll call the dealer in the am but wondering if anyone here can offer any help or experience.

I hope the refurbished idea wasn't an error ... & I was so pumped ... :(

I would contact Garmin - it doesn't seem like there is a problem with the GPS. There should be two disks. A City Navigator set up disk and then Map Source City Navigator Disk.

Good Luck

Ahh that sounds like the problem. I didn't get the setup disk. I only have the Mapsource City Nav ver7 disk. No matter how hard I shake that box no setup disk falls out. ;)

Thanks y'all

I found Garmin to be pretty good on customer service issues. I lost one of my CDs and they quickly sent me a replacement at no charge.

Once you get up and running, I think you'll really like the 2610.

Jeff,

I think City Nav 7 is a DVD. (Mine is) Your CD drive might not be able to read it. HTH

I think Killtimer is right on point... I only received 1 DVD and it says Mapsource City Nav. version 7. 1 DVD.

I was told by a very helpful tech at Garmin that all of the new software they ship, especially if you call for the free upgraded software, comes on DVD. Unlocking is a different issue, but be sure you have a DVD-ROM.

The 2610 I got a month ago was on a single DVD as well.
Verify you have a DVD ROM drive (or better) on your computer. If only CD-ROM, you may have to go spring the $20 or whatever it is these days for a cheap reader, and upgrade your computer. Or, see if Garmin can hook you up with CD format data.

Lots of us should be able to hook you up with duplicate media if you have problems with Garmin support. As long as you have the key to unlock the media, it is all good.

DVD format eh? I think you guys nailed the problem - confusing the issue is the Gramin Setup Guide they sent me that clearly refers to 2 CDs - one for setup and the other containing the City Nav software.

Unfortunately my PC is DVD challenged ... for now anyway.

The dealer I bought from is in the west and not open for another hour or so. I called Gramin and ended up on hold with an estimated wait time of 30 - 35 minutes. No thanks. I'll start with the dealer (GPS Central in Calgary)

Thanks again guys.

The official word from the Garmin, as told to my dealer .... (Not news, you guys had basically figured this out anyway)

"All software releases are now in DVD format".

They offered to send me ver 6 which is 2 disk CD format, but getting a DVD player is cheap and this issue will likely come up again anyway before I upgrade PCs.

Thanks again for all the responses

Glad you were able to figure it out Jeff. I am also kinda in the market for a 2610 or similar and would have had the same issue as I only have a CDR as well.
Were those guys (GPS Central) good to deal with?

Ooops missed your post Chris, sorry. I'm only a couple zillion unread posts behind.

GPS Central?, yes I thought they were good. The price I got was as good as anywhere, and better than most except for some NYC based `net sellers that I steer clear of.

They shipped very quickly and were also quick on the response with my problem, including one more follow-up (email) when I thought we were all done. Easy to get though to on the phone & no duty $ or wait either because they're in Calgary.

They get my  .

Thanks Jeff, I'll probably end up picking up a 2610 from them as well, once my farkle account can cover it. Took a pretty big hit at the bike show:eek:
