:03biker: Hey I'm looking to take the Lee Parks, Total Control Riding class this spring April 2. It's being held at the Dutchess Comm College in Poughkeepsie NY. anyone out there have any insight on this coarse?.There's not much in the way of riding schools other than the standed ones. I dont want to do a track day. just want to learn to be smoother with the bike. Thanks Ed:D

I also hopefully will do a track school this summer. Everything I've heard and read about the Lee Parks school is all good. I've read most of his book ("Total Control") and have learned a lot from it. Go for it and be sure and let us know how it went.

:03biker: Hi,Steve the coarse is an all day class room and parking lot drills. It's set up to fill the gap from the MSF class and the high speed track school. Here's there web sit WWW.ChristinesKickStart.com. They should be at the Javits show. Hope this helps. Ed:03biker:

His book Total Control (http://www.whitehorsepress.com/product_info.php?cPath=6&products_id=4308) grew out of the clinics. It includes excellent descriptions of the drills but goes into more depth than I would expect he can in the 8-hour clinic. I would suggest reading the book to understand the objectives and techniques.

This is great course and I ran through it a couple of times while Lee was in beta phase development and still with MCN. I thought it was great and really fills the gap between the MSF stuff and a full on-track based schools, from all reports it has improved since then.

One of the aspects that Lee spends a lot of time on is getting each participant's bike set up with respect to suspension sag and damping adjusments. I was amazed how many folks, even in the supposedly savvy motojourno biz, had never fiddled with their suspension adjustments! It was here that we discovered the ST1100's fork springs were too weak to acheive proper sag, even with a relatively light rider aboard. The ST1300 seems to suffer from the same problem.

The riding portion is based around a 30 ft. skid pad, which allows it to be held in the space of a parking lot. Lee goes through teaching you the right body postions on the bike for various situations including hanging off to the inside for faster turns and then tipping the bike to inside while you remain mostly upright for tight manuvers such as a u-turn in an alley or some such. He covers control operation, steering techniques, throttle to brake and brake to throttle transitions, and other stuff.

I heartily recommend it. Taking this class is what finally got me comfortable (well that and the MCN Intruder 1500 that I tested) with dragging footpegs and, in the case of my ST1100, even the tip wings in turns. It always freaked me out before.

If you decide to take it, please tell Lee hello for me!

Louie,

Lee Parks is out of the CA high desert (victorville? applevalley?), just check his website for the next time there's a class your area...

Chris and I took the class when he offered it here in AZ.
I found that I *knew* what they taught; but, I hadn't practiced it enough.
It helped Chris with her high speed corning.

I did note there were a bunch of really high mileage folks who had never figured out leaning, even on the ST, *really* helps your corning.

Check this out:
http://www.streetmasters.info/

Been considering this since they opened last year in Willow Springs. One friend who spent a day there nociably improved his handling skills. He recommends it highly.

You can likely find other schools and reviews but this one uses a specially designed 'road track' curves, hills, dips... I'm told a good variety and mix.

It might be good to attend with another ST rider

Is this the "Lee Park" one? Do they only cover turns?

This is not the "Lee Park School".
There may be something of value here in any case.
Did you follow this link? http://www.streetmasters.info/about_us/index.html

IMHO there are many rider skills. Perhaps the most valuable is accurately predicting the next few seconds on the road every time. Machine skills in swerving, stopping, speed control, timing, positioning are seldom put to severe test if the rider accurately predicts interaction of operator, machine response, and surrounding conditions.

I think keeping our rider skills in top condition is entertaining and excellent insurance.

Is the web site, all on road training to a very high standard. I would also consider coming to your side of the pond, but it would cost ya LOL

Scroll almost to the bottom of the list and you'll see a couple of classes in Anaheim.

They had one today!..However, I'll probably be going to the next one in Anaheim in March. They are also having them in AZ..
The price seems reasonable
Thanks...
